Got this pic off the AP wire. This is a Dutch soldier standing guard on a merchant ship. We need like 10 of these guys on every ship that sails through the waters off somalia. That is a .308 caliber M-240 machine gun.

From what I hear, they can't do that, on the tankers. There is a chance, of blowing the ship up. The claim is, there are sufficient fumes (vented to the air) that may cause an explosion.

Yeah I agree. They apparently need some sort of protection out there.

That and it looks like a frigate behind him....lol. I think there's a move by Secretary of State Rice to persuade the UN to allow "military" action against the pirates home ports in Somalia. I think she means the US military. Don't know how that turned out.

I think that Bush is going to punt this one to Obama and let him deal with it. Unless the pirates take a cruise ship with Americans on it. Then it will be full scale war.

non Military ships in international waters are NOT allow to have guns which is why they are such easy pickins.

Who's that enforced by, the UN? If so who cares what they say. I'd have the guns.

A machine gun is better than a flare gun. There are companies who offer this service. Most of them are busy right now.

A machine gun against rpg's isn't that bad of a fight when your a 100 feet up shooting down on there boat. I'd take the high ground and the saw "squad automatic weapon" any day with an advantage like that. It only fires 1000 rounds a minute compared to the rpg's 1 every 30 to 40 seconds or how ever fast they can reloaded.
