Friday on my way home from work the tranny in my 03' Z71 would not go into OD. Now the damn thing slips til about 4k then launches pretty damn good. At one side kind of fun with a heavy truck but sucks because I know its not right. Took it to the dealer today for my extended warrranty as it only has 78k miles. Scarry thing is the dealer says he needs to take it apart to tell the warranty people which parts need replacement and how much. If they don't cover then I will be stuck with $1400 bill to take apart. Hopefully I will be back on here tuesday with good praises and not NWS rants.

I am going to guess that the OD clutches and sprag in the input drum are gone/going, typical failures, maybe a valve body seperator plate too.

$1400 should fix the dang thing. Where I work to tear down is 3-500 dollars, including trans removal, and find out what is wrong and that is at a dealership.

i would have thought so that 1400 was high. doesnt seem like it would take more than day to take out and tear apart.

I typically can pull and rebuild one of those for $1300.00 or less...
In rare cases if enough hard parts are damaged it has been known to go $1600.00....on the low side $900.00

Tom gill is a dealer....:lol::flipoff:

i bet 70 30 you end up payin that 1400 , dealers are rip offs i would of never done that? Chevy trucks always have prob with the trans i know the people i know that has owned them says you better not haul anything bc after a bit the tranny will be junk , just like yours did started slippin.. Most the time they will go into first and second about when it times for third nothin there , sounds like what you described besides its not goin into over drive thats probally 3rd gear and when you hit it to the floor its goin back into second and takes off but hope you get tooken care of

My dad got 250K out of his 94 and we use to haul a trailer, tool and car every weekend with it. His didn't slip in first gear until he replaced the engine. I have a 2003 and it's been good to me also.

i had a 03 2500 hd with a 6.0 i bought the thing with 19k on it in 05. about a week after i bought it i went to go to school one day and put it in reverse and heard a horrific whine. took it back they put a new trans in it for me. never had a prob. again. i towed 18k lbs from cumberland to home with it. but then i sold it around 60k.

They will almost certainly want to replace the trans cooler and lines, at least flush them out....in fact make sure they do that....or you will be doing it all over again in 20k miles or less...
