View Full Version : Random laptop repair question...!!

So I have a gateway laptop and the left hinge is totally messed up, as if a screw in the back broke or something. The hinge that allows you to open/close the laptop is completely cracked, to the point that if I actually close it, the screen will completely break apart from the laptop on the left.

Does anyone know if it is possible to fix this, or where should I take it? I wasn't sure since it is not really a "technical" problem, but a cosmetic one. I can post a picture of what it looks like tonight, otherwise does anyone know of a person or repair shop that could fix it for a reasonable price? I can see it being somewhat difficult to fix though.

Any input would be appreciated.

depending on how big the screw is i may have a couple from another laptop that i could replace it with if it is in fact a screw, shouldnt be that hard to fix though

It would be tough to say without looking at it - perhaps you can post a picture of it? I imagine it would be more than just a screw though... If it's as simple as the housing, that would be easy enough to find an Ebay replacement. Anyways, start with a picture of it, and we can see what all is involved. ;)

Do you know what the model of the laptop is. You may be able to find the chassis for cheap on ebay and swap the guts out.

I was checking on ebay and craigslist and this is the only thing I could find is this it, and how much does it cost to have someone change it out.

i could do it for ya cheap, but you have to make sure the piece that is broken is on the base and not the screen, otherwise it would be a wasted endeavor.

also saw this on there, but i dont know if you want a repair like that or not (item #320343231779)

Hmm that looks like it might be what we need.... That whole part is cracked and it almost wants to pop off so we have had to leave the laptop open for weeks now, because when you bend the screen down it cracks the hinge even more...

Are you ever in the nky area? Maybe if you or someone else could take a look at it, we can figure out what part(s) we need for sure, then go ahead and order/buy them. Only because it'd be stupid to buy the whole chasis if we only need the hing part.
