i was headed out to monroe last night in my 89 lx to pick up some stuff and i was sittin at a light and out of no where i heard a screetching noise. i tought maybe a belt or pully so i went to pull into a gas station but when i went to put in in gear i heard and felt a clanking noise. i popped my hood there was minor smoke but it didn't smell like a clutch and i could see anything visably wrong with it so with the noises i drove it like three minutes to my house and dropped it off. any ideas on where i should start?

one more thing to add. when i went to move it into a diff spot in the driveway it felt like it wouldn't disengage all the way when i pressed the clutch in.

Not a lot to go off of but it does sound like it could be the throw out bearing.

Does the sound change when push the clutch in and out?

Maybe jack it up and listen from under the car...try and figure the area the noise is coming from.

Could even run it without the belt to elimnate belt and acessories.

You may need a new clutch cable. Start there, its easy and can make a world of difference.

see i thought my car also needed a throw out bearing, but the noise on mine is when my foot is off of the clutch pedel and goes away as soon as i barley tap the pedel.

the noise is only when i engage the clutch. to be honest tho i have been pretty lazy and i haven't even pulled the trans yet. it got warm and i got my bike out. i almost forgot it was broken till i wanted to drive it the other day to my car club. man was i pissed when i remembered it was broke. i had to take my busted ass honda so my girl could go
