Can you take a pic? That would make it a lot easier to identify the part. After 9 years selling parts i cant begin to tell you how many times a wrong guess was made and customers bought parts they didnt need.

its a 88 gt 5.0 and the cars not here, its some type of oxygen sensor right on the spacer comes off on a 90 degree and faces down. if this helps ill see if i can find a pic on the internet

Its the idle air bypass valve. It does affect your idle. You can try and clean it with carb cleaner, but do you best to keep the spray away from the electronics.

A new one is $65.00 at Autozone, and since the car is an 88, it sure couldn't hurt to replace it.

Idle air bypass is what controls idle but he said it is on the tb spacer at a 90 degrees the egr is on the backside and the sensor on it is at 90 degree pointing down egr can cause driveability issues also
just my 2 cents tho

thanks a lot man i polished the spacer and sprayed a clear coat on it! that was a stupid thing to do while it was still on! haha aw well at least its not to expensive.

Yeah he said 90 degree angle, I thought the only thing coming off in that area is the IAB and its at a 45. I dunno, are you talking about the sensor in the link I posted?

Rick, you're killing me!

The Idle Air Bypass, has nothing to do with idle?

Your link isn't right either!

T bag (LOL), I have no idea what part you are talking about. There aren't any sensors, on the spacer. Idle air, is on a 45* angle, on the throttle body. there is also the TPS sensor there, that has to do with idle.

My link is right for the bypass valve and you need your eyes checked. Reread what you quoted. It says it DOES affect your idle. If you need some proof, go start your car, let it find an idle, and then unplug it.

You're right Rick, I need my eyes checked. I did read it wrong.

But, your link is still wrong. It takes you to the first of 4 steps, starting with year.

One thing to check with the 88's is the main harness at the back of the intake. The salt and pepper plugs. They seem to go bad in 88's for some reason. If you pull them apart and scrape the inside of the prongs, and clean it up a little bit it might help.

I had an 88 last year and I did everything trying to fix it. I had a lot of those same problems, ran great when cold but as soon as it warmed up it ran like crap. I did that to the harness and it ran perfect after that....Just and idea for you.

hahah sorry boys i didnt mean to confuse you but i didnt know any other way to describe it! the pic is of the idle air i believe on the right side of the tb not the spacer, sorry i havent even looked at that motor in a year just ordering parts to get it ready for summer. and ill try to figure out the salt and pepper plug also(is one white and one black?) but thank you all for the advise.

Yeah that's weird, it worked for me when I clicked it after you quoted me? I dunno what the hell its doing now. This is what it was supposed to be.

Yep, they clip onto the back side of the intake.

TPS sensor and IAS both control idle.TPS sensor needs to be set at between .997-.999 volts with KOEO.IAS needs to be clean and functioning properly. The EGR valve is on the back side of the spacer, but does not affect idle quality unless its hangin open.
