well the cars hopefully nearing completion/in progress so i figured id start a thread now and try to keep it updated.

About three months ago i headed down to louisvile with trailor in tow to go check out a LT1 trans am

It's a 1993 black with black leather interior, only 74k miles.

the had been forsale for a long time and the price kept getting lower and lower. This is how the car looked a few years ago when it was mint.

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y272/amandi01/ta2.jpg

http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y272/amandi01/ta.jpg
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y272/amandi01/547313_3_full-1.jpg

unfortunately the distributor started going out on the car and the owner let it sit and the driveway and begin to go downhill

when i got down to look at it heres how it sat

http://www.cincystreetscene.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=14&pictureid=110
http://www.cincystreetscene.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=14&pictureid=111
http://www.cincystreetscene.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=14&pictureid=112

looked like a diamond in the rough to me:bigthumb

so I stole it for $3300 bucks loaded it on the trailor and headed home

for 3300 i got a TA with mint leather int. 74k original miles and heres the mod list:
Mini-Tubbed, narrowed ford 9'' with 3.70's moser 31 spline axles and a tru-trac all with 2k miles on it, 3 Piece FIKSE 18x10 fronts and 18x12 rears, Custom front hubs with tubular control arms, Heimed linked custom tubular rear 4 link trailing arms, Heimed trackrod for rear end. Triangulated front strut bar. brand new CPT pro race 4l60, Yank 3200 stall, Flowmaster 3" Catback with cutout, Carrera aluminum coilovers all the way around, 13" Willwood slotted and drilled with 6 piston calipers for front and 12.5" Willwood slotted and drilled with 4 piston Dynalite style calipers for rear

got home and got it washed up and she cleaned up pretty well, should look good after a full buff and detail

So, with the distributor going out I pulled it of the trailor and tucked it away in the garage to decide what the plans were going to be.

a couple of weeks went by and i stumbled across a nice loking turbo setup on LS1tech.

went down and met the guy halfway in kentucky

I picked up:

Garret GT42 turbo
hot and cold pipes, cold pipes are polished stainless steel
intercooler
tial bov and tial 44mm wastegate
flowmatched precision 98lb injectors
F.A.S.T. standalone engine management with wideband o2option and 3 bar map sensor.
motor plate
water pump milled 0.25 to account for motor plate

next I had to decide if i should run it on the stock motor for a while or do a built motor.

Found a guy up in youngstown ho had a motor sitting in his garage that he bought of his friend tobail him out of a financial situation he was in.

got some details arranged and got the motor payed for. Should be a tough one built with all the best stuff.

-Callies splayed 4 bolt billet caps
-Oliver 5.85 BILLET rods,
-Callies 3.75" crank,
-8.5:1 J&E forced induction pistons
-CC billet 248/248 solid roller custom forced induction cam
-CC solid roller lifters
-AFR CNC competition ported 227 heads with solid roller springs
-Jesel shaft mount rocker arms
-Cloyes billet roller LT1 timing chain
-MSD Probillet distributor
-Ported LT4 Intake converted for use with conventional rear mount distributor
-DRM 58m TB
-MSD crank trigger setup

heres some pics of it with the old setup on it that was going to go ino a C4

Hell the wheels and brakes alone are worth more than what you paid for the car I would think.

Thanks man! Yeah the wheels alone polished up could sell for close what i gave for the car. Not to mention the wilwoods all the way around, 2300 dollar pro race tranny, narrowed 9", coilovers etc. I could have bought the car and doubled my money as it sat with little effort.

I'm just a big fan of a bad ass street car, and to me that means some sick wheels with no skinnies in the front, bad ass brakes and a big turbo :D The only thing I'm not to fond of is the auto, even though I know it is faster with it. Sucks that the cold piping is stainless too, but o well, that thing isn't going to notice a few extra lbs from the cold piping

dsmawd350
04-01-2009, 06:03 PM
It may just get a whole new custom kit next year with the 91mm, we'll see what i feel like doing. I'd say the difference in the IC piping would be less than 5lbs changing to aluminum

spent yesterday up at rigid making some more progress on the car helping out where i can. I can't say enough good things about these guys! Can't wait to see the finished product.

When i got there we pushed the car outside and began the task of cleaning up the engine bay. It was nasty.

heres the car with the wiring all bagged up ready to be washed.

http://www.cincystreetscene.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=14&pictureid=126

got it all cleaned up and back inside. Next we chopped out the radiator support. you can see the degreased bay in this pic too.

http://www.cincystreetscene.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=14&pictureid=127

templates for the plates that will be welded on to cap the support
http://www.cincystreetscene.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=14&pictureid=129

new radiator mocked up
http://www.cincystreetscene.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=14&pictureid=131

next, out comes the heater box off the firewall.
http://www.cincystreetscene.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=14&pictureid=130
http://www.cincystreetscene.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=14&pictureid=132

After the chromoly tube goes in for the radiator support, the motor plate and mid plate brackets get welded in, and the plate gets made for the heater core blockoff. the engine bay is getting scuffed up and repainted with a nice semi-gloss black.
then more work and more pics:D

they got the plate made to block off the HVAC hole in the firewall. gotta figure out how the F.A.S.T and MSD box will be mounted the inside of it it will be painted black

http://www.cincystreetscene.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=14&pictureid=140

motor and mid plate are bolted up to the motor and the new motor is sitting in the car on the stock K-member for the brackets to be welded to the frame. Then it's all coming back out to paint the bay, and then it goes back in for good with the Kmember with no motor mounts

http://www.cincystreetscene.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=14&pictureid=141

they started laying out the FAST to get it all sorted out and loomed up/etc.

http://www.cincystreetscene.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=14&pictureid=139

once again big shout-outs to rob and bill hensley up at Rigid. I wouldnt want the car with anyone else. Amazing detail, and always there to work with you through the whole thing

dsmawd350
04-14-2009, 02:03 PM
got the FAST and MSD mounted to the inside of the firewall plate, still need to mount a coil on it and mount the firewall connector for the coil.

got my tubular K member in

http://www.cincystreetscene.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=14&pictureid=150

got the stock k member out and all the suspension taken apart from it to get blasted por-15ed and then go back on the tubular peice

http://www.cincystreetscene.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=14&pictureid=145

got pretty much everything mocked up in the engine bay! soon its ready to pull it all back out and paint the bay and begin final assembly

04-24-2009, 07:15 PM
I dont know how familiar you are with LT1s but they came with the Optispark distributor which is a cam driven dist. located behind and below the waterpump on the front of the block. They cause nothing but problems, the rotor inside is prone to failure at high RPM, as well as moisture being a major problem to them. So im sure you can see how being below the waterpump works out great for them. LOL

I'm considering the same thing that's why I asked haha. After my junk being move around and worked around so much, it's gone a few marks and it never really did get a full wetsanding and buffing so it would really set it off.

gonna pick a day this weekand get up to rigid with rob and spend an entire day knocking out the last 2 things before the motor can come back out and paint the bay : need to drop the crossover pipe down .5-1" to clear the canton C4 vette pan thats on the car. finish the radiator support and get the griffen mocked up. then its finaly the home stretch, the motor can go back in for good and wire the FAST up and do a few small things like the AN fittings and lines on the waterpump and radiator that are gonna replace the rubber lines and clamps.

motor has been in and out of the car getting things mocked up, then to paint the engine bay but it's finally in for good. motor/tranny is in the car for the final time, turbo kit is all heat wrapped and finished and bolted up, suspension is back under the car with the new k-member after it was all pulled out, blasted and i por-15's all of it.

http://www.cincystreetscene.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=14&pictureid=209

fuel system is all plumbed and mounted, (not shown in above pic) we pulled the stock tank, sumped it, and welded the -8AN return on top

went with all magnafuel stuff, pump, pre and post filters, 1:1 rising rate boost referance regulator, -10 braided lines for feed, -8 for return

radiator is also in the car and mounted with -16 an bungs for inlet and outlet

http://www.cincystreetscene.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=14&pictureid=210

http://www.cincystreetscene.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=14&pictureid=212
not alot left to do on the car:
wire up the FAST and all the electronics on the car
build endtanks for my precision core and get that mounted
make the braided lines and hose ends for my coolant system (already have all the -16AN bungs welded on the WP and radiator)
and a few small odds and ends

no it starts right up and purrs beautifully , but it just has a startup tune on it at the moment.

one of the AN fitting on the radiator is leaking, and a pinhole leak at the fuel sump. once those are fixed (hopefully this weekend) it will be going back to tracey to be street tuned

Ive seen stock LT1s with turbos make 400 to the flywheel, with his combo my guess would be what 500 HP to the flywheel with some good tuning. So that makes it to what 400-420 RWHP? My bad I was 30 HP off.

Your just digging yourself deeper, theres too many factors here to determine that, head flow, boost, cam specs and duration, etc...Only the dyno will tell.

I got some new goodies installed. Strange Pro Series drag brakes, 5/8 stud kit, 15x12 billet specialties street lites with 325/50/15. and 17x7 front runners to clear my wilwood 6 piston brakes. I'll probably end up going strange drag brakes on the front too and going to 15's. or having the 17's narrowed to 4''

also got the interior all torn out. leaving saturdy morning for michigan

Got my shifter installed finnally along with the linkage and cable all set up properly. This was probably the biggest pain in my ass on the whole car due to shitty instructions from B&M and a shifter thats made to fit like 10 different transmissions with pulling a pin here, adding a pin there, this bracket for this, spacers for this no spacers if its this. Finnaly got it all figured out with enough trial and error.

http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=13879&pictureid=54035

got the piping all changed up to fit the new setup, fuel rails and lines all bolted up. just need to mount the map sensor somehwere now and run a vaccuum line to it as there is no longer a provision in the manifold itself.
