is the wiring harness the same in these cars? my buddy has a 96gt and was wondering if he could put 99-01 4.6 in his car.

The engine swap is pretty straight forward. You will want to use the wiring from the 96 though. You will also want to retain the 2 individual coil packs to keep it simple.

yep straight drop in. just reuse the old harness and you will be fine.

You may also want to use the 96 timing cover so you have something to bolt the coil pack brackets to.

You should also know whether you are getting a romeo or windsor engine. The romeo like what the 96 has comes with a 6-bolt crank and 11 bolt valve covers. The 99-00 windsor engines come with an 8 bolt crank and 13/14 bolt valve covers. The valve covers obviously aren't going to be a big deal if the engine is complete, but you do need to make sure your flywheel/flexplate will work.

In 01 I believe Ford changed the accessories. I know the water pump is longer in the newer ones and I believe the rest are further out at the front of the engine. You can use all of the accessories and crank pulley off the 96 engine, but it is also something to be aware of.
