Extremely sick

I've been sick on and off since F'in OCTOBER. I went to the ER a couple months ago because i just couldn't take it. Turned out i had a sinus and ear infection. I got meds and felt better for a while. Now i've got it again plus they said it sounds like i've got the flu on top of both the sinus and ear infection. Today i felt a lot better but i came home and slept some because i work third shift, but when i woke up i just feel like i'm gonna die. I'm coughing so hard and so long that i gag myself and it makes me puke anything that's in my stomach.

They put me on an antibiotic and gave me this cough syrup that has a steroid and codine in it but i'm still coughing like crazy plus i'm taking Claritin to try to clear my sinuses and Mucinex to try to clear chest congestion. I'm so fucking tired of being sick that it's literally breaking my will and i feel like i'm on the verge of a fucking break down.

Plus, today while i was feeling better it was nice out so i took my car out...the fucking ignition burns out on me so it's sitting stranded at my buddy's apartment complex. I'm glad it happened there and not somewhere else but now i've got more shit to stress over.

I need a fuckin hug :barf:


Now i'm reading on Yahoo that there's this strain of flu going around that's KILLING people and it's got my hypochondria worked up.

Hang in there man, sometimes its hard to shake that stuff. If your not on one already, get a good multivitamin that you take twice a day. I'd tell you to start loading up heavy on Vitamin C, in the 5,000 mg a day area, but it can have an affect on your antibiotics, so wait till your off of it and start loading up.

Damn man! Sorry to hear about you having to suffer through this shit.
I don't think you have the Swine Flu, but "regular" old flu is bad enough. If you aren't satisfied with the treatment, get a second opinion.
I can sympathize with you, I was sick once from September thru May. After battling this shit, I finally went to a different Doc, he gave me some stuff, and it kicked it out in a week. Good luck, hang in there.

Ya know it's like i told the doc....i'm a pretty tough dude, i've got around 30 hours worth of tattoos, i've had over 20 body piercings, i've had broken bones that i worked with and never got treatment for, super glued cuts together and said screw it and just forged ahead. I'm not the type to cry about the little things and like i told him i wouldn't be in the damned emergency room for a simple cold.

The worst part is i'm on my 3rd day off from work and i feel so damn guilty for it. Sometimes i have too much worth ethic. I really think stress has a lot to do with being sick.

Stress will make you sick!
Keep in mind that ER Docs generally suck...they are usually the Docs just out of school that get stuck working the ER shifts, or they are trauma Docs.

Yeah this guy was actually pretty weird....he checked me out and asked more about my symptoms and then just flat out asked me what i wanted him to prescribe me.

I said, uh, isn't that your job? :lol:

He said well what is it you want? Antibiotics? Pain meds?

I said, well i feel like shit and i don't wanna feel this way anymore, so whatever it takes to make it go away.

He says ok give me the top 3 things i can make better.

I say, coughing my guts up, severe sinus congestion, and inner ear pain.

He said basically with the flu unless you get the shot before you get it, you're screwed and have to get over it on your own but the antibiotic will help with the sinus and ear thing and the syrup will help with the cough.

Man, that sucks being sick. Like what has been said here, vitamins and fluids. Rest is probably the best thing for it too. Hope you get well soon.

Just woke up. Still have 100 degree fever. Still blowing chunks of mucus everywhere. Still coughing uncontrollably.

I hate to hear your soooo sick but maybe since we have had a break in this crazy weather maybe the fresh air (well as fresh as you can get in SW Ohio) and sunshine will do you some good. Oh yeah, Lysol - I found if me, bigbadstang and the kids keep passing stuff back and forth, Lysol everything and wash everything in hot water. It really does help!

Had an ear infection sooo bad once that my right ear collapsed and had to have reconstructive surgery on it. And it worked great for a while, now it doesnt drain to well. I think I've had more sets of tubes but in my ear than in a sewer plant.

I'm sick when the weather changes.... I'm sick when the weather stays the same!! :mad:

go figure, the FIRST day of beautiful weather I'm outside sneezing my ass off!

I always thought that your allergies and stuff change almost every year... soo far mine still suck.

Stupid plants/trees just cant wait to blow their yellow powedery load in the air and make me sneeze!!

I hate Ohio weather.

My wife and mom both went through this a while back. At the end of February they both came down with a cough and cold. My wife had it a little more than a month. Finally our doctor gave her a steroid inhaler and the cough cleared up. My mom had a lot tougher time with it though. This up and down weather we have had for the last month can't help either.

Arizona is the place for you. I know of a couple of people who had bad allergies till they moved out that way. You can race all yr too!

The fact that you're still running a fever means you have some sort of infection. Whether it is viral or bacterial is the question. Your doctor should be able to do a culture on the mucus and determine this. If it's bacterial, he should be able to prescribe the proper antibiotic. If it's viral, like the flu, maybe they can give you some of those antiviral meds they have available now. Like one of the other members stated earlier, if you're not getting the proper care get a second opinion and see what happens. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.
