Well, I've had a few people on my ass to finally start a build thread. So, here it is. Title of thread is a play off the song "Down with the Sickness", of course, because that's what this car thing is, a sickness. I'll try not to get too long winded.

It's been a LONG road just getting it to this point. Long story short, had a perfectly good 9sec street car, got bit by the racing bug, tore car apart, changed combos about 30x, had another youngin', and never got it finished. I've finally started working on it again, and the combo is what it is. Not changing anything, besides selling off some of the more racey stuff, and putting this thing back on the street!

I'm going to put a couple of before pics here at first and then I'll add the more current pics in later posts, some of you might remember it from the old pics. Anyway, should be a fun ride, hope you guys like it.

BEFORE: Injected 351, hydro roller with out of box Vic Jrs, C4, and NX wet kit. Drove this thing everywhere and had a TON of fun in it. Eventually ran high 9.80s-low 9.90s. OR, high 11s spraying the pee out of it in Middletown terms. :D

CURRENT STATE: Crawford 347, Cammotion custom solid roller, TEA ported Vic Jrs., 'glide with Chance converter, TWIN Precision 70mm turbos, etc.

Got to thank Ray from VictoryFab for all the chassis work and misc. fabrication, not to mention all the storage time. Car lived there for very long time. Spence Hart has built most all of my new suspension pieces and numerous other things here and there. Jason Zimmers fabricated the twin kit, came out awsome. Charlie (91Boost) is responsible for the bodywork/paint and he did some killer work getting the engine compartment in order. Thanks all.

I'll post some of the pics as it sits and I'll add some of the pics of it getting here later.

Here's a few pics on my offset lowers with offset perches(I'll show why I needed both later), tubular A-arms, and AFCO coil over kit. The A-arms have been shortened an inch to help get the tire under the fender a little further.

Thanks goes out to Spence Hart @ Rhodes Custom Auto for all the fab work on these. He's doing my rear uppers and bump-steer kit too. Great fab guy.

Hey, its June. Whats up with the car? :)

Got back from vacation last week and started new quarter at school so didn't get anything done. Hoping to get quite a bit done this week. I'll give you a call after my cousins funeral tomorrow so we can hook up and try to get your engine set in. Won't have a ton of time but should have enough to get that done if you have things pretty much ready. We both need to get going, time's a wastin'.

Thanks man, I appreciate the offer anyway. I'm hoping to take the car down this weekend. He's saying it'll only take a day to get the exhaust on and modify the crossmember. Then all my shizzle can get coated finally and put in place permanently!

Getting some things done, but nothing really picture worthy at this point. So I figured I'd throw up some pics of the Wolfe adjustable spring mount that I put in while doing the mini tub. The spring sits in a cup cut into the frame and still rests on the lower control arm. It gives about 3-4" of adjustment. Fairly slick but kind of a PITA to put in.

Tell Spence I said Hi next time your talk to him.

Just got done talking to him a few minutes ago, I'll tell him you said Hi when I talk to him next.

LOL ... 300 sounds about right, this one is what it is and will be completed. No more worrying about class racing, no more babies, etc. I'm just putting it together with this crazy collection of parts I have laying around and enjoying it for a change. I did do the twins over the winter vs. the single I have but that was just something I did to be a little different. BTW .... I have a nice T6 flanged Turbonetics 85mm dual ball bearing turbo and a huge air-to-water cooler to get rid of if anyone reading this is interested. :D

A regular coil-over setup would have been much easier. I had done this to fit class rules for a class that no longer exists. It's nice but I wouldn't recommend it unless you're a glutton for punishment like I am. :bangwall:

Its been a while but I'm actually finding time to work on my junk so I'm hoping to have regular updates again to this build. :bangwall: Finishing my last quarter of school now and my schedule has freed up considerably.

Got all my new front end parts put on this weekend. I got the coil-over kit on, the new hubs, tubular a-arms, C/C plates, struts, and wheels.

Just can't decide if I want to keep the MT wheels or use the old 4 luggers for the sleeper look. ;)

Well, got the holidays out of the way and my garage back in order so I'm finally getting some work done again. Going to start this phase by getting the brakes done and then who knows from there.

A few of the pieces I have going in:

Racecraft manual conversion
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j23/Kwik92GT/LX%20and%20GT/045.jpg

Skinny Kid brake line kit
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j23/Kwik92GT/LX%20and%20GT/049.jpg

Maximum Motorsports manual brake pedal kit
http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j23/Kwik92GT/LX%20and%20GT/MMBAK-11_LG.jpg

Ran into a potential problem when putting the master cylinder in. I bought the Racecraft kit because they make the smallest adapter that I know of and the master cylinder sits REAL close to the header. Need to figure out something about it, I'm not liking how close it is. I have a different master cylinder that gives me almost 1/2" more clearance but I really want to use the Strange master. Even with the 1/2" more clearance it's still too close IMO. Nothing is ever easy with these things.

Brake fluid is subjected to very high temperatures, especially in the wheel cylinders of drum brakes and disk brake calipers. It must have a high boiling point to avoid vaporizing in the lines. This vaporization is a problem because vapor is compressible and negates hydraulic fluid transfer of braking force.

Quality standards refer to a brake fluid's "dry" and "wet" boiling points. Wet boiling point, which is usually much lower (although above most normal service temperatures), refers to the fluid's boiling point after absorbing a certain amount of moisture. This is several (single digit) percent, varying from formulation to formulation. Glycol-ether/dot three/dot four/dot five point one brake fluids are hygroscopic (water absorbing), which means they absorb moisture from the atmosphere under normal humidity levels. Non-hygroscopic fluids (e.g. silicone/DOT 5-based formulations), are hydrophobic, and can maintain an acceptable boiling point over the fluid's service life, although at the cost of potential phase separation/water pooling and freezing/boiling in the system over time - the main reason single phase hygroscopic fluids are used.

Boiling points for common braking fluids [1]
..........Dry boiling point ... Wet boiling point
DOT 3 .. 205 °C (401 °F) ... 140 °C (284 °F)
DOT 4 .. 230 °C (446 °F) ... 155 °C (311 °F)
DOT 5 .. 260 °C (500 °F) ... 180 °C (356 °F)
DOT 5.1 .. 270 °C (518 °F) ... 190 °C (374 °F)

That's actually the direction I think I'm heading in Jeff. I thought maybe covering the shield with some type of heat reflecting coating or something of the sort. With the headers getting ceramic coated and having a coated shield or something of the sort, I'm hoping I can keep things under control.

Started with a porno red dash here, now it's the correct titanium. Pictures honestly don't do any justice to the before and afters. Actually came out better than I expected. Been putting in a lot of prep work to get this stuff to dye right. The glove door is done but have no pics right now, I'm still working on the vents and they are a major PITA. I'll post more when completely done.

This is the dash and pad separate that I started with:

How do you dye the plastic? It looks great

I'm using dyes from Latemodel Restoration. They are made by SEM and are very good. It's not a hard process but is a little time consuming. The key is in the prep work. I start by cleaning the parts with dish soap, then I use trisodium phosphate (TSP) to get all the grease and other residues that may be on the panel, off. I then apply an adhesion promoter/primer, depends what your working on (hard plastic or vinyl). After that dries, I then dye it my color of choice. That's about it.

Annual update time. Sold the BS3 a while back, and bought a Holley Dominator ECU with associated items, harnesses, etc., from Mike at Dayton Performance several weeks ago. The plan for now is to just do whatever I need to get it running. My OCD is just going to have to take a back seat for now so I can make some type of real progress. Rick is helping me with this. My plan is to yank this engine out in the next couple of weeks so I can get the heads finished, put the 2nd turbo drain in oil pan, swap out cam for something more streetable, and just generally button things up with it so I can set it, and the trans, back in for hopefully the last time. Going to get it running with the A4 blocked 347 that's in it now, and put the Chance TH400 and converter behind it. The Glide is going into the corner for now along with the Dart blocked 347. I am going to get it running as-is and keep boost in 10-12lb range while I sort out all the new build issues, etc., that it'll inevitably have. May be a long time before car is "finished" to my liking, but this way I'll at least be able to enjoy it some while the other stuff I want to do to it, gets done. I have no set date or anything for when I think it'll be running, I'm jut going to work on it when time allows until it gets to that point.

A pic just so I can say I updated thread with one. :D

About damm time...throw a F cam in it and get it running.

That's the plan, looking for one now. I have a couple of other HR cams here that I could, and may, end up using, but I'd rather use an F if I come up with one, it has a little wider lobe sep than the cams I have.

Not much of an update really but it's forward progress so I'm updating. :D Got the engine/trans out today (that was fun lol) so I can get the heads done, put the HR cam I picked up in, putting 2nd drain fitting in oil pan, and checking fitment of the headers while it's out and easy to see. After that, it will be re-assembled, mated up to the TH400, and then put back in for what should be the last time.

Any updates on this Greg???????

Have the F cam in, buttoning up a few more things with engine/trans and will be stabbing it all back in soon. I started getting the Dominator ECU in and wired this past weekend. Not sure it'll be done before the good weather is done but we'll see. I have a family vacation coming up soon and both my boys are in sports so it's hard to find time to work on it to say the least. Thanks for asking. :bigthumb

Progress! Big thanks to Rick (Rick93coupe) and Mike (SnailPony) for coming over today and helping me get "Little Boy" between the frame rails and getting the trans in! I wasn't exactly feeling the best today and these guys stepped up and got it done for me. Very much appreciated! Now I have to keep this momentum going!

Not really ..... got it close to getting ready to fire and then in September I wrecked my back at work and couldn't work on it anymore, that issue lasted well into winter. I got myself healed up fairly well and then managed to get myself put in the hospital a few weeks ago (lucky to be here), and have had to take things easy as I recover and get some strength back. I should be able to get going on it again in the next few weeks but health will have to continue to improve for that to happen. I've got people ready to help so I'm optimistic I can get this going sooner rather than later. Just going to be a bit more time than I had planned but that's been the story with this car ever since I tore it down.

Kwik92GT
01-07-2019, 06:31 PM
Not a whole lot really. Wiring in the ECU and all the other stuff that goes with that, plumbing the fuel system, and re-running the brake lines again are the biggest jobs that I need to get done. I will be pulling the engine one last time as well to fix an oil pan issue. I have smaller stuff to do of course but none of that keeps me from starting it up so I'm hoping to have it ready to start by March/April and driveable by May. I hate even putting any kind of timeline out there as something always seems to come up but that's my hope.

Well, this is where I'm at tonight. FINALLY got all my wife's stuff off of, and from around the car so I can actually work on it again. This thing was buried! Anyway, I'm starting on putting the fuel system in, I will be fabbing my own dual in-tank fuel pump hanger for the 450 and 525 Walbro pumps in my stock tank (it is sumped but won't be using the sump for now), I'll be taking photos and showing how I'm doing this as I go so someone can duplicate it if they wanted. This setup should be good for 800hp or so at the wheels with 160lb injectors on E. After the fuel system is finished I'll be moving on to getting the Dominator and everything else wired, once that's done I'm going to finish the brakes, finish any plumbing under the hood, install the shifter and it should be ready to fire at that point. Fingers crossed
