We are running a 50 oz. imbalance rotating assembly in a '67 chassis, and are unsure what to do about a timing pointer.

The balancer is marked at the 11 o'clock position, a'la Fox body. However, we are running an early radiator and water pump, with the passenger side inlet, placing the water pump inlet exactly where the pointer would be.

My thought is to put the engine to #1 TDC, make a pointer that bolted to the front cover on the driver's side, and with the Dremel mark the balancer referencing the new homemade pointer. I could then just slap on a degree tape referencing my new mark.

Any reason that would be a bad idea?

I had to modify my pointer and wanted to make sure Where TDC was. I verified when TDC Was on my motor by making a piston stop out of a piece of plastic with a bolt in it. I bolted it down with the head off. I turned the motor over one way till it hit the stop and marked the balancer where the pointer was then turned it over the other way till it hit the stop and marked it. You split the difference between the 2 and that is where TDC is on your balancer. You could do that and mark it on the other side and make a couple Timing marks for you to time the motor. 0 deg 10deg 30 degrees. I have an Electic water pump on my car with the lower inlet on the Pass Side. I had to shorten my timing marker so I could read it.

Sweet. Thanks for the input.
