Got my t5 rebuilt and going to install it today!!! How do you get the pilot bearing out of the motor? I have heard of the grease and rod method but was wondering if there is a better way. Going to put a new one in as well as a throw out bearing. Those keep the main input shaft straight and cheap to replace. Better safe than sorry later.

You can do the Loan-A-Tool at Autozone, and use one of their pullers... Easiest way I know!!!

Or you can shove a piece of bread in it and use a 1/2 inch drive extension and a hammer to force it out. Lol it works believe it or not.

Please tell me you guys weren't pulling my leg. I have 2 pieces of bread in there now, using a 1/2 inch extention, and a 3 pound mini sledge hammer and it isn't coming out. I tried a slide hammer earlier and tore the needle bearings out of it so it has to come out. Help!!!!!!

Keep at it with the slide hammer. These have always seemed to be a PITA to me. Also have you tried the grease method?

The grease wont work with the needdle bearing ones. Seriously the bread works but if you tore the center out you will need to use the slide hammer.Heat it up alittle with a heat gun. Also replace the rear main

I have two pilot bearing pullers that I use on Honda tranny bearings......one is $120 from snap-on, the other was $10 or so from Harbor freight.

Bring it. I am stuck on this one. The rear main seal doesn't leak so I don't want to replace it.

i was going to say, if the rear main is leaking (90% of stangs) replace it and use a little bit of gasket maker too ... its a good little trick i got from curt ...

stay at it with the slide whacker, heat it up as well ...

I cut off and old input shaft to use it like a punch. It always works with the grease method. I have also used the slide hammers with success. When one was really stuck, I used my nitrous line to freeze it so it would come out easier.

I think I am headed to advance auto and rent a puller. I want to get the trans in before I head to the farm to prep for the party. I will let you all know how that goes.
