Ok it's not a ford, it's a 02 grand am with a 3400 v6. It won't overheat every time you drive it, it would go for like 2 or 3 days with out overheating then bam it would overheat with in the first 1 to 2 miles you drive it. The fans are comming on I put two thermostats in it,replaced leaking intake gaskets, and pulled the water pump off just to look at it. I am lost. Any help? thanks. Someone said a head gasket but would a head gasket be blown one day and not the next? I don't think so. Oil looks new every time also.

Are you sure its overheating? Are you going by just the temp gauge on the dash,do you smell anything,is it boiling over,do you have a temp gun you can read temp at some of the points in ,on,and near the engine?
If I recall on those engines the water pump is on the pass' side near the front by the radiator held on with a few 8 or 10mm bolts? Might as well swap it out for a new one if it is.Its cheap insurance.
Oh,and if you do swap it out, mark the belt routing on some paper, alot of cars made it out without the stupid belt routing sticker on the cover.

It's hot it's boiling over, I would not mind changing the water pump but since I have removed it to look at it I don't see anything wrong with it, like the head gasket being blown would it pump water one day and not the next? Thanks
