I was 12 when I saw it in person. Honestly did not have a full understanding of it but I knew it was important.

The tomb has never gone unmanned. Only once since it has been built have the Sentinels been relieved of duty. That was a few years ago (2002 or 2003) can't remember. When the had the hurricane come up the east coast.
Even though relieved of their duties no Sentinel missed their assigned time.

I would say that ranks right up there with visiting the Arizona at Pearl Harbor.

having served the marine core 4 years, it definatly was an honor, but to do this for a day would be the greatest honor of all, i read about it when i was younger, and have always wanted to do this, to march those 90 steps is something i'd never forget

I have seen pearl harbor and watched the march and changing of the guard and I am a better person because of it. Thank you to everyone who had the courage.

I remember watching this probably in the 5th grade and even at that time getting cold chills while watching. Defenitly an honor just to be able to watch it happen.

One of my best friends and my Track Commander when I was in the Army use to be part of the "Old Guard" in D.C. he said it was an honor........ for sure if you havent been to D.C. and checked out the sites you should... especially if you were a soldier makes you realize just what you were serving..... other than your "country"

I couldn't agree more! It's an awe-inspiring sight. Additionally the Holocaust museum should be a required visit. I have been to both Birkenau and Auschwitz but the Holocaust museum does a very good job depicting the depravity of the human mind and what can happen if we give free reign to a government or individual.

I have seen this and Pearl Harbor. The feeling you get while looking at both is something I have never felt before. It's unexplainable until you personally experience it. Both trips were well worth making. It puts into perspective what our service men and women do for us.
