My car at idle revs up and down. Goes to a little shy of 2k rpms and then back down and just keeps doing it. Unless i rev it up and then it will idle smooth the whole time at a stop light. Checked vacuums and intake for leaks. Does this sound like a throttle position sensor??

Thanks,
Dave

I'd say the IAC is messed up, ( idle air controll )

If its the SRT in your Avatar,I have no idea.

If its a mustang id say its the IAC like 429boss said.

iac helped it alot.. Has done it only once or twice in about twenty miles of driving.. Gonna pull the throttle body tomorrow and clean it real good.. Didn't clean it as good as i should of today when i had the iac off

I had the same problem with my old 91 GT. I put a new IAC on it and it fixed it perfectly! Also, it had been a little while since it had been tuned up and I figured out it needed a new cap, rotor, and the spark plugs were the wrong "heat range" for a stock 302...I purchased a set of Autolite 25's and it ran better then ever...I forget what was in it in the beginning though.

i replaced the throttle position sensor AND the idol air control, mine still does it, it started when i put the new throttle body on, so in order for it not to do it i have to leave my IAC unplugged, with it in, the rev sticks, and it revs up when i go to shift

Here's the procedure.

TPS typically makes a car idle too high or too low, and IAC usually makes them "gallop"

Atleast with the experience I've had with them.

well my TPS sensor is where its suppost to be, .98 but idol air control just sucks, i cant figure it it, i even went back to stock throttle body and it does it still, so im just stumped
