My dad is looking into a Forester for my sister who is about to turn 16 and I was wondering if anyone on here has one, heard anything about these, have any feedback on Subaru's in general, etc.. I'm obviously trying to talk him into the turbo package but I don't think it's going to happen. I heard that they last forever but that's all I know about these cars. Any feedback would be appreciated :bigthumb

I've know a few people that's had them and have had over heating issues resulting in head issues........

Is he looking at the new Forester? If so they are suppose to be pretty damn nice. We tried to look at one for my wife but all the Subaru dealers in Dayton suck.

I had a 2004 WRX, a couple friends of mine have new WRXs and the old 2.5RS. They're great cars, very reliable.

If the car is for your sister, I would shy away from the turbo. The fuel mileage difference between the turbos and NA cars is pretty big, plus the NA can run on 87 octane.

Get a manual transmission, though...the automatic takes all the fun out of the boxer engine.

They are very particular cars. Follow the maintainence schedule very closely and it should be okay, I was a lot tech at a subaru dealer for a while, and my good friend is an excellent subaru mechanic and I saw lots of things happen to those poor cars when they were not properly maintained. But that being said, Maintainence is a must with any vehicle.

Yeah he is looking at a new one. And if it were my choice I'd be buying an american car but that's not my call. I didn't think the fuel mileage would be that much of a difference between the turbo car and n/a.

I don't think the boxers are especially efficient engines. The forester is only rated at 18 & 24 MPG.

My Mom has a 05 Outback turbo 5 speed. It's awesome and gets about 25mpg. I'd still buy American though and always will :)

They are made in a zero landfill plant...that way in 8 years when it's a smoldering pile of shit, you can bury it with a clear conscious.

My forester has ran 12s with the auto trans. As for mileage I get 25-26 highway, but I'm also custom dyno tuned.

Relieability, well that depends on how you treat and maintain ur car.
