Felipe Massa was struck in the head/helmet by a coil spring that had fallen off another car, causing him to eventually crash into a trie barrier at 120+ mph.
He had a fractured skull and is listed as stable.

That sucks. I wonder how fast he was going? And why didn't a track worker call that part in so the track officials could stop the race? Or did the part fall off right in front of him and there was no time? Either way that's crazy.

watch the vid...it is crazy. It popped off and nailed him right in the left side of the head!
