i just bought a 01 f350 stroke and like always i already have the bug:bigthumb
anyhow im not sure on whats done to it?
looks like it has a 4" exhaust, banks big head turbo Actuator, and it has a super chips sticker in the window but i have no clue how to tell if it has a tune or not?
also the truck still has the cat on it can i get rid of it?
truck runs pretty strong and rolls the smoke but this is my first diesel so im looking for things to do.

I say get a delete pipe for it. If Someone sold you the truck and kept the programmer maore than likely they returned it to stock. The programmer is useless unless deprogramed. You can stack another tune on there if it wasnt taken off. But I am pretty sure it has to be a chip style tune. If you want more power and a crazy amount at that get a dp tuner. My little brother had that tune and it was a straight monster.

Super Duties didn't have cat conv on them. The early 94-97 PSDs did though. I'd put a flip chip in it and override the the Super Chips, if its actually got a tune in it. Put the cheap cold air setup on it, that along with exhaust makes them run real good. Anything after that I know people that can hook you up. Stop down the shop and talk to me one day and I'll steer you in the right direction! Congrats on the purchase!

thats what i thought? but i was wrong
it was the wiring harness down in the vally under the turbo it has a short someware? sometimes it starts then other times it wont
you can wiggle the wires around and it fires right up? anybody else know anything about that?
i bought the truck from a credit union it was a repo so i couldnt even test drive it but so far im super happy:bigthumb
also talked to the old owner he said it has a superchip tune in it
i guess its some kind of flash tune? because i have had the ecu out already and didnt see anything

yea thats what i have heard but it has a cat for some reason?
cheap cold air is on the way!
now can you tune these with a chip? or do you just buy a programer?
whats the deal with stacking chips?

as long as the ecu is tuned with a programer,Im pretty sure you can get a ts or dp and plug the chip into the spot were the black rubber is on the computer. It will be a little much for what you need, but will be cool lol. im almost positive that they can work with that tune and use smaller amounts of power so it dont hurt your truck.

Strokes dont work that great with stacking call jody at Dp 828-221-0076 ext.100
Best tuner u can get u will need gauges tho.

You CANNOT stack anything on the 7.3 PSD. A flip chip, like TS Performance style, will ALWAYS override whatever is in the computer ie factory stock programming, flash tuner like Super Chips, etc. If you put a chip in it, it will wipe out the Super Chips and be chip tuning only. Gauges are a good idea. And it'll most likely need transmission work at some point. VB, tq conv and a big cooler are a good start.

I would think it would have to have some kind of aftermarket tune roll smoke...

No you cannot "stack" anything on a 7.3. A chip will always over write whatever is in the PCM. You might be thinking of a 10k resistor mod/Edge EZ (same thing). But these are unnecessary and obsolete anymore because the same thing can be acheived in the chip tuning. DP Tuner is good stuff, but there are good, cheaper options locally.

does the dp tuner do anything with the trans? because i have heard of people
buying the edge tuner and having trans problems?
im looking to buy something that i can do my self in my driveway with out needing to be on a dyno
also i guess whatever tuner i go with will just overwrite the superchips tune thats already in their?

I have been running a chip since I got mine and just had to get the tranny rebuilt. Tugger kit, billet TC, new seals, 1pc sleeve and some other goodies; she runs like a freakin champ again!

The trans is one of the best mods I did to mine, 3 cluch Billet converter, we put in a 95 VB for a single stage lock up, man this thing locks and goes, best money spent was on trans in my opinion!
