PIQUA – A woman faces felony assault charges after police said she went on a rampage, allegedly trying to hit two people with a vehicle before repeatedly plowing a Porsche into the side of the truck in which they sought refuge.
Pamela Maher, 47, was arrested July 16 after a series of incidents in the parking lot of a shopping center off U.S. 36 on the city’s east side.
She is charged with two counts of felonious assault along with misdemeanor violation of a protection order and driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The charges are pending in Miami County Municipal Court, where a preliminary hearing was scheduled for today, July 23.
Piqua police were called to the parking lot around 12:45 a.m. on a report of an assault in progress.
Witnesses said they saw a woman in a Porsche repeatedly driving into the side of a truck with two people inside.
The truck’s driver, a 58-year-old Piqua man, said he had a protection order against Maher, who he described as an “ex-friend.”
He told police he had put the Porche in Maher’s name while he was in the process of a divorce from his former wife. He said he tried to get the car back, but a judge awarded it to Maher.
The man and the 26-year-old Piqua woman with him said they were heading from a sports bar to the truck when they saw the Porsche coming toward them, forcing them to run to the truck to avoid being hit.
The man claimed he had received several calls from Maher during the evening on his cell phone, and she was upset with him for talking to the woman accompanying him. A police officer said Maher made remarks about the woman to him .
The 1990-model Porsche and the 2003-model truck both sustained heavy damage, police said. No one was injured.
Witnesses stated they saw the Porsche ram the truck up to (9) different times. They also claim the driver took a running charge at the truck by circling back around and flooring the Porsche into the truck!
The man that owned the Porsche (before he signed it over to Maher) claimed he KNEW for a fact that she was going between 45-50 MPH on the initial impact!
He said he heard the driver shift in to 2nd Gear BEFORE she rammed the truck! Having owned the Porsche for (10) years prior, he said that was around the speed he would get after shifting into 2nd from a WOT start.
