I picked up an 89 dodge Conquest a few months back. I got it from a local shop where it had been sitting for over a year. The owner didn't want to spend the money to fix it (bad injector). I made an offer, he took it and I drove it home. This is one of the cleanest Conquest/Starion's I've come across in person. No rust, no body damage whatsoever and the interior is very clean. I though about just fixing the motor and driving it but a V8 would be must more fun (and cooler). I went to C bus yesterday and picked up a donor motor out of a 99 explorer. I still have to source a T5 and the harness/ECU.

Cost mostly. I wanted something that can made good power without doing a lot of fab work. An LS1 would require a good bit of fab work to fit and a mod motor is way to big for the car.

It comes stock with a 2.6 liter turbo 4 banger. Decent motor but the TBI stuff can be a pain if you want to make power.

Yep, seen one. There's really no "standard" as far as swaps go for these cars being as there no "kit" to drop in a certain motor like there are for the RX-7's. I've seen Mopar V8's, LS1's, 302's, SR20's, 2JZ's. Basically pick your poison. I just can't believe how cheap it is to mod/build one of these motors.

A good example is headers. A set of shorties is what? $200? I can't buy headers for my S4 for less than $2K.

I figured cost was the main reason for the 5.0. Keep us updated on the progress.

With the wiring nightmare, you may be better off going carbed. I out sourced all the wiring on mine, 81 coupe, and it would be so much easer to go carb. Just a suggestion.

Looks like he has the engine harness, and as long as he has the ECU out of the exploder (assuming that you're even using the stock ecu), shouldn't be that hard.

Where did you get the motor if you don't mind me asking?

One of my favs. I'd fix the motor that's in it, they're good motors and can make some power.

The 63B that's in there just won't make enough power (reliably). I'm not using the coil pack setup on this motor. The plan is to convert it to dizzy and run a harness/ecu from a fox body. The wiring shouldn't be pretty easy.

I picked up this motor from a guy in Columbus.

That thing is in awesome shape. I've wanted one of those for years, but its damn near impossible to find them in that kind of condition. Cool project

It's extremely hard to find them in good shape. If you do they want a fortune for them. I got lucky on this one.

No nightmare here, takes 4 wires to make a 5.0 engine harness work.:bigthumb

J,

Nice car, i have owned a 84 Laser and a 90 Daytona, they were fun cars to drive, so light and sporty. This looks so similar. Never seen one of these before but being from Canada they were obviously not imported there. Good luck with it, a built 302 ought to liven it up for sure!

Not much to update. Picked a second 5.0, T5 and the harness and trans. I might get to actually doing something this weekend.
