I have owned several and never hurt one behind any of my blower or turbo cars. If you can get a good price snag it

They were about $1200 new. I have had one for years and no issues.

shifting on my 3550 is notchy mabie clutch but every one ive ever had the stock shifter shifted the trans smoother that aftermarket, even with syncromesh GM fluid. Ive never bought one new, i usually find them complete for about 850. with the economy, good price used prob 750

they used to be 1295 before they were replaced by the 500 which is now over 2k. Which has elevated the prices of the used stuff a bunch. I get 1200 out of a rebuilt one with a guarantee easily. They usually are gone within days of getting one done. Problem is, if one is in need of rebuilding, each gear set is over 150 bucks, and the sliders are nearly 275, each blocker is 30 or so. Just ridiculous. And guys want 900 for ones that need a 'synchro' whatever that means, like its a 20 buck part, the synchro is comprised of all three of those pieces I just mentioned, the gear, the slider and the blocker. And they are frickin pricey! So a banded up one is worth less than 300 bucks, maybe less than 200 if it needs more than a couple gears. Hope this helps.

I loved my old regular 3550...it shifted very smooth. I put hundreds of powershifted passes on it. It held up behind my 347 with a spec stage 3 clutch to many high 10 sec n/a passes and 20-30 10.3 at 132 150 shot nitrous passes...1.4 60's. I finally hurt it when I missed a 2nd gear shift..after I did that you couldn't powershift 2nd anymore. So it was basically broke to me. Pulled it out..had it fixed (~$400 in parts)..then traded it for a lentech AOD setup. I still miss driving a 5sp at the track.

I just sold my for Tremec 3550 that had a upgraded 31 spline output shaft for $1500.00. That included a Bell housing and the Pro-5o shifter. I also gave him the used motorsport clutch and the yoke he needed for his current driveshaft. A new world class T-5 these days is $1200.00. I'm switching to a Art Carr C-4 or otherwise I would have never sold it.
