That's interesting, I thought everything on a car for the clunker deal was to be destroyed and that nothing could be sold from the car ?

That was always my understanding as well... But there are some very enterprising individuals out there

The motors were the only thing not allowed to be sold...so I heard.

specifically from the memo we got at the dealer stated the engine had to be completely unusable (liquid glass) but whe the junk yard got them they could sell body parts and stuff legally before crushing the whole car. so they could essentally gut the car then crush it with the drivetrain.

I'm sure heads and intakes are liberated from those motors at the very least...

I work for a very large salvage yard and we have tons of the clunker cars. The engines and body / shell are to be destroyed. The product they use in the engines destroys everything including radiators that have oil coolers built in. The only exception to the body being destroyed is the unboltable parts, including the beds and front clips. The drivetrain is sellable as long as it has passed our inspection. The last count was over 400 vehicles on our property. You guys would be amazed at some of the vehicles that go through the dismantling building, most of which get drained of all fluids and taken straight to the crusher. It's a shame.
