Well, it happened again. On my way home from my buddy's place in norwood... I was cruising along on Rt. 32 just about to cross into brown county when a buck jumped out in front of me and totalled the Lincoln...

It's fucking done, both airbags popped, core support is bent, radiator blew.

Airbag hit me in the hand, hurt so bad felt like i broke my fucking thumb so I went to the ER to get it checked out, its okay but hurts and my finger tips hurt where the airbag threw my hand off the wheel and my finger tips hit the back side of the steering wheel rim. Choked on the airbag dust for a while. Luckily I had my head back on the headrest or i probably woulda had a broken nose.

The brace on my hand makes it a bitch to type!!

I am SOOO pissed off right now. I loved my big ole Lincoln. But now it's done.

goddamn deer!!! :ar15:

Dont know what I'm gonna do for a daily driver now. I hope I can convince my insurance company to fix the car. I already have an extra hood and passenger fender for it. I think the front bumper is okay. grille/passenger headlight/header panel/hood got wiped out.

This fuckin sucks, I almost had all my parts to fix the air suspension and front end on it!!!

Sorry to hear that. The airbags and dash are one of the main cost killers in that model. I had a 1994 MKVIII (loved that car) I wrecked years ago. Both airbags deployed. The dash 95% of the time gets damaged on the passenger side from the deployment. My airbags deployed as I was getting out of the car. Over $4000.00 in parts alone with regard airbags and dash in 1999. 99% of MKVIII's in junk yards you will see have cosmetic front end damage and deployed airbags. Good luck. Sorry for your misfortune. Hope you have better luck than I did.

That sucks man. I've been driving 32 from 275 to Peebles four to five days a week for work the last 5 months. 32 is like a animal mine field. Its not a matter of if I'm going to hit something, just when. You see dead deer all along that road. Lots of them are missing heads. People stopping on the highway to cut a dead bucks head off is just messed up. Seen a guy going it one day. Felt like taking him out with my truck and leaving him laying next to the deer. Hope you can save it but doesn't look good.

Yeah Jesse that sucks but hang in there buddy. Just as a pre-caution for the future. The deer are in their rut right now. And this will continue until next month. The bucks are chasing the doe's all over the place. All the deer are moving around alot right now. Your chances of hitting one right now are greater then any other time of the year. Especially out in the country where we live.

My wife hit one two weeks ago in N.Y. Lucky she just caught it with the bumper. Hit it at 70 and the deer jumped up and ran off. No major damage. Plastic bumper has a debt. Looks like the fender and hood is out of alignment. Nothing like what other people have posted on here. Insurance told her to get a get it fixed and they would take care of it.

Even if the insurance says its wiped I say do a buyback and rebuild it w/o the bags. It's not like you want them to be hitting you in the face again right? I haven't priced luxobarge parts lately but cosmetically it doesn't look horrible. Good luck with the recovery. If it makes you feel any better i bet the horny deer didn't fair any better than your linc. (imagine if the last time you were chatting up some skank a 3,700 lb car blasted thru the bar and mowed you down:lol:)

jessie let me know if you need an estimate that will save it if you want to. you will definatly need to find used bags though. that alone is enough to total it.

Gotta be careful with the way you wrap your hand around a steering wheel in an airbag vehicle. The thumb should not be wrapped around the wheel, wrap your fingers around it and lay the thumb on the side of the wheel facing you. You should also avoid placing the hand at the top of the steering wheel. Just an FYI for those who never really thought about it..

That sucks man, I love MKVIIIs. They can be such sleepers with the right mods. Hope you heal up. Take up deer hunting when you are all better!

Sucks dude, glad your alright.

Honestly i would just take the money for it, take what you want off of it and go get another one. I know where 2 are sitting right now that havent been driven in months cause their owners dont want them, both of which have great looking paint already on them, bet you could pick eithe rone of them up cheaper than fixing that one, and it will never have been wrecked.
btw, if they do total it out then its a shame that the motor just "fell out" before it goes away, build it up for the next one or one of those fox's you have laying around.

Dude, back when I was in HS I almost hit a deer near that same spot.... Since then I have had my fair share of run ins, thats what happened to my 96 Mustang I had in college, I actually tried to miss it and ended up taking out a fence....then I had a deer actually hit me, ran right into the side of my 96 escort I had....

Yeah dont that engine get away, nice if it finds its way into a fox.

Stangman
11-17-2009, 03:38 PM
Yep, new hoods are 1100, grilles are 430, headlights are $225 a pop... header panel is obsolete, fenders I have no clue...

and of course the bags are popped so I think my poor car is a gonner :(

I'm gonna fight tooth and nail to get it fixed, I've been getting on the internet and printing receipts for things I've bought so I can turn them into Claims... The biggest thing will be the nearly new transmission in it from Alan last year, plus my full blown tune up, brakes, tires, and stereo!!

I had a similiar experience semi-recently. The T-Bird was out of commission for some reason or another (i forget what it was) earlier this summer. So im cruising to PT one morning in the Mustang and all of a sudden this deer just comes sprinting out of some field. I saw her in just enough time and hit the brakes. I caught her rear end and my buddy who was a few minutes behind me said she was fine. However, the lower grille insert was missing, the bezel around one of my fogs was cracked so the light was tilted slightly up, left a dent in the right rear quarter panel, and the hood was crooked. Thank God for USAA insurance!

Jesse you must have bad luck with deer... Chris told me he saw a big buck yesterday morning on his way to work (at 5am) and I saw him this morning I think in the same exact place chris saw him yesterday. We are staying with his grandparents out in Grant County out in the middle of nowhere, so there's tons of wildlife. They are everywhere this time of yr but that is one thing I have never hit or been hit by so hopefully it stays that way!

Did anyone see the NBC Today show Yuesday (11/17)? A guy hits a deer and it gets lodged in the grill. The deer is still alive. The clip shows a person putting a bag over the deer's head to calm it while they remove the thing from the guy's car. They examine the deer and find only a few minor cuts on the thing, so they turn her loose and away she goes. Somehow she slipped right between the bumper and the hood. Never said how fast he was traveling when he hit it.

I haven't seen that but will try and find it when I get home. I did see some still pics where a BMW hit one and it went through the grill just like that. Not so good for that deer. It ended up ground beef plastered all over the engine. It would have taken a good power washer and lots of elbow grease to clean that mess up.

one ran out in front of me last night on my way home from south lebanon while i was driving my dad's lincoln ls. that would have not gone well.

I'll let you know... I come thru eastgate every afternoon after work. I'll be going to Hebron, Ky tomorrow morning to check out a junkyard my friend goes to...

I still have no official word on my car yet.

Just trying to keep all my options open... I need to find as many yards as possible that have Mark's in them.

So far, Tresters in Milford has a great core support for $100, and they have a nice rear bumper with exhaust cut outs... I have a hood, fender, and chrome brow. And just looking at it without tearing into it, I need a header panel, grille, headlights, corner lights, and that SHOULD be it for the body parts... then I need a radiator and who knows what else...
