Hi
Finally got a little done. my son had the plugs out when I arrived and was doing a coolant leak check. The leak check was good it held pressure 5 minutes. Used a borescope and what we could see looked good... no holes in pistons!! Found a lose hose going to water pump.. At this point I felt hopeful. We went and got some plugs and oil. While changing oil we discovered the pieces.

Not feeling so good now. Going to do a leak down tomorrow night.

Here is a picture of the spark plugs.. http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-forums/images/smilies/frown.gif

and here are the pieces found in the oil.. http://www.stangnet.com/mustang-forums/images/smilies/frown.gif

Were you spraying it?

No he has a supercharger on the car.

Sorry to see the bad news. I would say hpefully it is nothing but from past experiences any metal like that in the oil pan is not good.

No .. i have a stock block 347 stroker wit a vortech making around 520 rwhp. :) or I should say had :(

ouch! well at least you don't have a coolant leak :)

Sorry to see that Steve...from just seeing the plugs and pieces it's hard to say exactly what happened. But....from the look of the plugs...possible oil contamination in the combustion chamber which can cause detonation which can cause piston ring lands to crank/fail. A compression/leak down will tell you more. But the oily burnt plug tips aren't good.

That bottom piece looks like a piece of ring to me. Hope its not to bad.

I busted a couple like that one year. Replaced the block and pistons and went with it. Sorry to see that Steve. Good luck and hopefully its nothing to bad.

Man that sucks to hear. It is winter time though so you got plenty of time to switch over to a good block and rotating assembly. Once you get all that, get the smallest pulley you can and take it to Cincy Speed and let Adam crank some power into that thing!!!

Seems that this winter a lot of people are going to be going through their engines...

That really blows Steve.

Hoping it would not be anything to bad.

That is a large dime you found in there.:screwy:

That sucks. What kind of piston was that?

A couple more shots..... 2 holes, 1 dimple and 2 cracked pistons

Smiley face.... actually a dimple in the piston.

Ross pistons (http://www.petersperformance.com/products/505.htm)[/URL]
Not recommended for forced induction>>>> you should plan out your combo..

I'm not sure why they would say they are not for forced indunction if they are forged. Maybe the allow they us?:dunno: I would think as long as the compression ratio is in the right ball park for the intended fuel and the car is tuned right it shouldn't really matter. At least that seems logical to me. I think I am going to agree with Jeff and say that it may have been oil contamination that caused the issue.

Well...piston manufactures will design a piston for forced induction/nitrous use with a thicker deck and move the ring package down some to move the top ring down away from the combustion chamber heat. Looks like there was definatly detonation going on in the motor.

I didn't give that a thought.

Man that sucks!! Looks like detonation forsure. What was used for tuning the car and who was the tuner??

What happen is: The clutch started slipping bad and the rev limiter kicked in and I didn't get my foot out of it.... then detonation and melt down... nothing to do with the tune.. Unless there was a mechanical failure fuel pump.. distributor slipped or something!

If you can swing it Jeff88coupe's r block 347 shortblock would be a nice addition. :bigthumb

Sorry to see the damage. At least you have all winter to fix it up.

Going to get a dart shp block I think!!

Steve Barker is doing the rebuild.

With the right pistons this time.. The car had high compression (flat top pistons) which I cut down with thick head gaskets....
Good news the heads seem ok... going to freshen them. They are heavily ported tfs.

sounds like a plan. Steve is very good. Hope you can get it ready for Spring

Sounds like the motor will be built the right way. Thick head gaskets will get you a lower compression ratio but they screw up the quench ( the area betwween the top of the piston and the head. I would bet that the screwed up quench and the higher ring lands of the NA style pistons was alot of your problem.
