I currently have 3.73's in my car and I know most guys run 3.27's in their turbo cars but I'm running a Viper T-56 with the following gear ratios:
2.66, 1.78, 1.30, 1.00, .74, .50
Will the 3.27's be enough gear or should I step up to a 3.55? Or maybe even stick with the 3.73's? I just think that .50 6th gear would be pointless with 3.27's.

I'd go 3.73 personally, that still makes 1st gear pretty long with the 2.66 1st gear so you can load the turbo better. Having had a Viper Spec T56 in my car previously with 4.30 gears I would turn about 1870 rpms with a 27" tire. I can't imagine trying to cruise on the highway with a 3.27 gear. My little mod motor wouldn't have the torque to pass anyone without downshifting but a stroked turbo windsor might not have that issue.
Here's your gearing breakdown at 70mph in 6th gear for highway cruising
3.27 gear 26" tire- 1490rpm
3.27 gear 27" tire- 1423rpm
3.27 gear 28" tire- 1374rpm
3.55 gear 26" tire- 1617rpm
3.55 gear 27" tire-1545rpm
3.55 gear 28" tire-1492rpm
3.73 gear 26" tire-1699rpm
3.73 gear 27" tire-1623rpm
3.73 gear 28" tire-1568rpm
I would think that a 3.27 gear would be out of the question with a Viper Spec Trans unless you stuck with a 26" tire for the street. a 3.55 would be ok I would think with a 27" or shorter tire and a 3.73 would be ok with any sized tire.

What tire are u going to be running? That 6-speed sounds like spin city. Spin, shift, spin, shift, spin. lol

Excellent post!! That's EXACTLY what I was looking for. I think I may stick with the 3.73 then.
I'm going to run 315/35/17 tires on the street and some 325/50/15's MT ET streets on the drag wheels for the rear, so 3.73 sounds perfect for me.
I'm glad I asked and didn't sell the gears!

I just say that cause that motor is going to make big power and with a manual trans no tire will hook on the street.

I'll turn the boost down on the street
I'm really hoping to take advantage of the boost by gear function on the ECU as well.

The only gear that spins for me on the street is 1st gear. 2nd on up the car sticks with 275/50/15 Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials. My power comes on a lot differently than a turbo'd windsor but my car still makes over 600ftlbs pretty easily. My car is kind of tank like in it's weight though so that helps.

I ran a 327 with a viper T56 in my vert for two years. It was a dog to drive on the street, let me tell ya. But only for starting out, once the loud pedal was rapidly depressed, the tires went up in first gear, then would hook through most of second, until the boost really came on, then in third and fourth no problems. I went with 3.73's after much deliberation. I think it will really help with the around town drivability and street manners, but will destroy the tires when I punch it. Don't know if it's the right choice, but I think it will be fun to find out, lol.

That's really what my goal is for this car is to cruise it around on the street 90% of the time and just have fun with it. Yea, of course I'll take it to the track, but my main concern is driveability and streetability. I think I'm going to stick with the 3.73's, thanks for your help guys!

Don't be a wimp go 4.56...Just kidding if it were mine I would try 3.27's in it. Turbo cars run great with auto, a good stall (not too high) and 3.27-3.55 gearing. Keeps them loaded a bit. For that manual I would have to agree with 3.55,3.73 or possibly 3.90. Then again I wouldn't waste my time on a manual.

It doesn't cost anything to see what it will do with the 3.73. It's not a make or break it deal for you since it's mostly a street car. I say give it a shot and make a decision after some seat time.

Should fit fine. I had those 295/35/18's on the rear on those 18x10 BBS's and they had plent of room all around. Just gotta make sure you have the right width, backspace and offset.

Haha, this car will never see an auto!
Rick, I agree and that's what I'm going to do :bigthumb
