I bet that is Joe Kohls' old LTD.
That is cool. Could make one hell of a sleeper out of it.

If it is Joe's old car, it is no stranger to Edgewater OR Scarlet Oaks Autox.
I PM'd Joe the link through a different board, he was asking me about transmission work and I'd lost his number.

You'd sure be scratchin your head if you got smoked by an 1984 LTD. I sold Fords for a very brief time that year and don't remember this configuration being offered. Fleet cars that year being used for police cruisers were mostly the Crown Victoria. That is not to say that a special order may have been available through fleet sales for this vehicle configuration. Most of the general LTD series were offered with the 3.8 liter V-6 or a 2.3 litre in line 4. All were rear wheel drive.
So, mod the engine, tweak the tranny, install a very quiet exhaust system with electric dumps :), throw a 373 gear in the thing and freak out some unsuspecting sportscar enthusiasts. This would be even better than the sleeper Fairmonts and Zephyrs you see at the track once in a while form that same era.

...........
In the middle in the 1984 model year, Ford introduced a performance LTD called the LX. It came standard with the high output 5.0 L CFI V8 engine, four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive, 600 lb-in front and 270 lb-in rear coil springs, front and rear sway bars, 10 inch front disc and 10 inch rear drum brakes, and a 3.27:1 rear gear ratio with a Traction-Lok differential. The LX model was the only LTD to have a center console with a floor-mounted shifter for the transmission, and a tachometer in the instrument cluster. Roughly 3,260 LXs were produced from mid-1984 to 1985. The Mercury version of the LX was the Marquis LTS and was available only in Canada in much smaller numbers.

I just figured out (through someone with a sharp eye on another board) that the first picture of that car is NOT the car shown in the rest of the ad... Look at the taillights...
The first picture is of the Mercury LTS

but lower right picture has the Ford Emblem on the trunk.
I'll bet the good pic is when it was purchased, the you can see shape it was changed and left to rot away, or the only thing in common is the painted wheels.
BTW Brian's number is 513-658-3583.....I'll see what else I can dig up.

The power of Google and Pipl
Looked up his email, lead to another craiglist post about a dishwasher which had his phone number. Did a search on Pipl and court cases came up. Looked on Hamilton County Clerk or courts......
plus I was bored and it smelled like a scam, I HATE scammers.

I almost went for a P71... then I realized... nobody in Cincy can drive... so I better get a 4x4 incase I get shoved off the road by some moron!
Drove a '95 grand cherokee in '07 for a little while... with the 5.2... absolutely loved it... that thing went ANYWHERE with Timberline A/T's (old tread pattern) and I was doing 60+ where people couldnt do 15... and it handled too! blew my mind

I think he took all the good parts off and put some junk on it. The wheels in the first pic are worth $800 if they were the orig. cop car wheels and caps. The other pic are just 10 holes painted black.

I just picked up an '04 Ranger FX4 Level II last night and so far I like it... except it doesnt pass many gas stations!

Come on Jimmy! just put it to the side for a little while, then when you get time just throw a wild turbo blow-thru setup on it :bigthumb

I love it, its an F150 Supercrew, levelled running 20" wheels & 35" tires,
I drove Rangers for years, but the family got bigger and my full size gets about the same MPG a Ranger would.
