Not going to get nuts for a basic build thread, but here are some details and a few pics ...

1995 5.0 vert ...

Engine:

302 Mountaineer Long Block (7754 Miles) Thats right, 7754 miles ... drove to toledo to pick this up ... $425.00
Ported P-heads ... roughly 40 hours of work ...
Trick Flow Valve Spring Upgrade Kit ...
Explorer/Mountaineer Intake ... roughly 10 hours of port work ...
Trick Flow Stage 1 cam ...
Ford Motorsport 1.6 Roller Rockers ...
70MM Throttle body ...
Ported '94-'95 elbow ...

Exhaust:

1 5/8" BBK Unequal Length Headers ...
BBK X-Pipe ...
Mac Catback ...

Very minor suspension upgrades, upper / lowers, mac springs & subframes ... Brand new Weld prostars will be going on it ... 15x3.5 & 15x10's ...
Plan on using the stock 19lb injectors with a 255lph fuel pump ...

Tranny is a Tremec 3550 ........

Very basic build, shooting for 280-285 on md's dyno ...

The car ...

its been sitting for at least 4-5 years ...

331TwistedWedge
12-12-2009, 01:08 AM
The engine before clean up, the engine after (painted) ...

331TwistedWedge
12-12-2009, 01:09 AM
Head Job  before and after ... Same as the engine, just a high temp cast for a natural look ...

331TwistedWedge
12-12-2009, 01:16 AM
Port Work, Milling, Valve Job & Intake Port Work ...

331TwistedWedge
12-12-2009, 01:24 AM
Throwing it all together ... powdercoated by kenny (mustangboy), it made a $425 mountaineer motor look like a million bucks ... trashed the stock '95 valve covers & shawn bought some ford racing ones to clear the 1.6's ...

Looks excellent!!!:bigthumb

I would see if auto zone (or your favorite parts store) has any black power steering reservior's in stock, they are cheap and vanish visually once installed, unlike the ugly pale yellow ones.

you are prob right, i should have made shawn spend a few $$$ for a black one ... trust me, i almost painted it ~ but with some work, it cleaned up decent ...

looking good. nice work.

thank you ... i really took my time with it, hell its cold out anyway ...

Looks great Ricky! I'm looking forward to seeing it make some pass's.

(and) thank you as well "big shannon", you have given me count-less amount of tech advice (porting, cam & so on) via text messages  its been a long time since i've done a build, its amazing what you forget ... as you can tell, ive mimicked your combo as much as i could ... 325/343 is just insane ...

1 step forward & about 13 back ... thats how today went ... went to kenny's to pick up the upper intake & throttle body, it went downhill from there ...

mocked the engine up with the upper intake & the '94-'95 elbow has hitting the valve covers ~ along with the egr (which is now thrown in somebody's yard), Idle air control (i think its that) & the bottom of the throttlebody ...

a 3/8" spacer would have been the ticket, or go to a fox body set up ... those options are 10 times better than what i did to fix these parts today ...

heres a few pics ...

ok, thanks ... i will get back on it thru the week & see what i can modify ... im def dropping it down next weekend ...

wonder if a 1" spacer would work with a factory hood? ... i love my 1" spacer, that edelbrock stays cool ...

it will be at the track. i havent touched anything on this car. rick has done 100% of this build. all i have done was buy everything.. between work, remodeling, and my families schedule i am busy. rick is doing a killer job. i have his ass on a bit of a budget though... we have been getting killer deals though... we you can buy a brand new red top optima for a little more than $100 it helps.

update ... x-pipe is on, holley 255lph fuel pump is in, new brute force u-joints are on, drive shaft installed and the mac catback is on ...

have a few hours of porting the upper intake to go, then finish up under the hood ... should be ready to fire up new years weekend ... after that, the car is getting a new clutch cable, firewall adjuster, quadrant, front coil springs and subframes ...

If you have not test fit with the hood yet, I wanted to let you know it will be very close to fitting if your running the stock hood. I am running the Trick Flow intake with a 3/4" spacer and the hood insulation rest right on top of the intake...just FYI. Also glad to see another built SN95 Convertible. :bigthumb

we laid the hood down last weekend, it fit just fine ... not sure on the clearance, but it fit ... we took his hood insulation off years back, that might be helping ...

i doubt we make your kind of power, but somewhere in the 280's will be great ...

thanks for posting up your pics a while back, i saved your engine bay pics ~ these 95's have a bit more wiring and unusual plug ins ...

331TwistedWedge
12-28-2009, 09:20 PM
ported the upper intake to match with the lower ... intake, elbow, throttle body and all vacuums are done (really bolted down this time, lol) ... moving right along ...

No problem! Nothing like the first fire up after a BUNCH of work...even better when all you did was bump the key and it fires right up! You did a great job on it...had everything right and it looks even better in person!

thanks fellers :bigthumb

drove it today around the block ... no back brakes yet, waiting on 2 banjo bolts for the rears ... i ripped it a few times and its responding nicely down low ... cant wait to take it over 3500 rpms ...

heres a few pics of the outside ... it may go to plated for paint one day ... i think shawn will put his weld pro stars on it come spring ...

the front is up, still have the front coil springs to put on ...

finally some track results ... thanks to shannon for the 28" drag radials ... the timeslip is missing the 60' time, but looking at another slip i believe its a 1.87-1.89 ... very pleased with the 12.88 lauching at 4000, on a drag radial ...

cleaned the car up a bit too ...

**larry you owe me $25.00** ... not only did we hit a 12, we did it with a drag radial ... i want another $25.00 when it goes 12.40's on slicks   :bigthumb

signed, pickles only!
