Just curious if anyone else has had their fair share of Media gossip with the latest Tiger Woods crap? Should the guy have received special treatment because of his social staus? NO! Beyond possibly being given special treatment by law officials (which is wrong!) I could care less how many bimbos he is sleeping with.
For the record I am not a Tiger fan just as I was not a Tom Watson fan, or John Daily fan. I get sick of hearing about how great they are from the infatuated sports media. The same stands for big names in NASCAR, NCAA basketball, and every other sport.
Seems like the world is eaten up with the personal dealings of overly paid celebrities and sports heros in which MOST, BUT NOT ALL never seem to be able to handle their fame and fortune. To many people putting these humans, and that is what they are, human beings, placed on pedestals like they are gods and goddesses by media and fans and then "boo-hoo-hoo" and "shame on him or her" when they fall off of their snow white perch. For pity sake, so they have a gift. BIG DEAL!!! That does not make one perfect. These are merely people with a gifted talent. Otherwise they are still humans like you or me and they make mistakes as we do, they are only richer. WOW THEY ARE HUMAN AFTER ALL. WAKE UP AND SMELL THE ROSES WORLD!!!!!!!!!
I am sick of hearing about everybody's dirty laundry. There are bigger issues to be concerned with. Is Tiger Wood's personal life going to change how the world rotates for anyone outside of 10 or 11 women and a couple of lawyers? Will morality crumble becasue Tiger Woods or any other hero stumbled? Will liberty and justice cease to exist because a guy couldn't keep his winky in check? Will unemployment go out of control because another sports hero proved he/she is human? Will this nation go third world status because Woods slept around and got caught? NO!! Get a life America!

+1. I really couldn't care less about that crap. Unfortunately, I don't see that changing anytime soon. The majority of people in this country thrive on that kind of stuff and the media's going to put out whatever makes them money. Oh well...

I am tired of hearing about it. If the traveling salesman down the street sleeps with a new woman in every town it doesn't make the news. So do we have to keep hearing a about Tiger. Surely there is something else news worthy going on in the world.

Nicely put. Why does the world and especially Americans idolize these people. If people would look close enough they would find plenty to look up to in their own families or communities.

So, not a single one of you, has an idol, or someone who you really look up to?
None of you, have "cliques", that you hang out with?
You do realize, that Mr. Woods, is truly one of, if not the most talented golfers, EVER! If you haven't noticed, golf is not a team sport. It is up to the person playing the game, what the outcome is. And if you have never "played the game", then you really need to sit down and STFU!
I'm not saying, that I agree, with the media attention, but come on.....
It is, what it is!

I dont see the relevance of any of this to golf. SO he is the greatest golfer ever. Great, cool, he should be paid as such also...great. I just think people should concentrate on their own lives and not fixate on others in the media.

STFU!??? I'm pretty sure we all realize how great of a golf player Tiger is. And sure, I have people that I look up to and "cliques" of people I hang out with (though I'm not sure what that has to do with this). I love to watch the best in sports do their thing on TV just as much as the other guy. I just don't find the minute by minute updates on the latest woman he supposedly slept with to be entertaining. It's just our opinion. No one ever said he sucks at the game.

There is a difference in having a hero you respect or admire and idolizing a person to the point of thinking that they are beyond reproach. Idol worship comes in all shapes and sizes. I have nothing against admiring or respecting a person because he or she has a talent. BUT, when that level of admiration reaches the point in which a person cannot differentiate between mere human and a god, a very disturbing line has been crossed.
I respect and admire many people for their talents. Some of these people are coaches, others athletes, some in the media, and a few right here on this website that I have met, and have come to admire for their talents. I would not go so far to put a person however so high on a pedestal that they become perfect in my eyes.
Now as far as playing golf, I was playing golf when nobody, repeat nobody thought it was cool. Woods were really made of laminated wood or persimmon. Irons were mostly forged blades, and all clubs had steel shafts. Don't preach to me about golf.
As far as Woods being the best EVER, that is a pretty bold statement when you look at the history of golf. I could throw the names of Hagen, Snead, Nicklaus, Palmer, Crenshaw, Trevino, Rodriguez, Zoeller, Norman, Caldwell, Jacobsen, Pate, Stewert, and others at you as reference, but since you are soooo steeped in golf doctrine I will tell you who in my opinion is one if not the all time best PGA pro in the sport. The man happens to be Calvin Peete. Calvin Peete's father was a migrant worker. He did not come from a well-to-do background. He was a common poor Joe so to speak. At one point in his early life his left arm was broken severely in several places. His family did not have the money to have the arm properly set. The arm never properly healed rendered him partially disabled. Calvin picked up his first club in his early twenties. He went on to get his PGA card and won twelve PGA tournaments in the late 70's and early 80's. His career was short lived and not overly publicized by the media. He returned and played on the Senior Tour and I got to follow him for the only time at the Sr. Open at Kings Island in 1995. He is a very humble man. Bythe way, Calvin Peete in case you didn't know is African American, he was breaking grounds well before "Mr. Woods" came about. Character is what makes a man great and deserving of admiration (not idoliszed), not just his skill.
Have a nice week.

Yup golf is a game. Just like baseball, basketball, football, hockey, etc. So he is the greatest at a game. Besides providing entertainment what positive impact does that have on society? There are plenty of people doing great things for humanity who can barely get by and these so called role models are making tens of millions of dollars for playing a game. I don't care if he is the greatest lawn bowler of all time I really don't think his sexual exploits are news worthy events.

Did everyone hear the latest? There was a poll taken and they say that the reason it is getting so much publicity is because he is black with a white wife. They said if he was a white guy with a white wife this would be swept under the rug and not even really covered. They say its all because of his race that hes getting a bad wrap!! :flipoff: Sorry but I think that is Bullsh*t

Yeah, that's just dumb. It has nothing to do with anyone's race. The media just has an obsession with trying to slip the race card into any story they possibly can.

Whatever happened to just being American? I know getting off of the thread subject but since you brought it up, I don't konw why being american is so hard to except by people looking for their origin. I guess I should refer to myself as being "Ger-wel-Cher-anglopean", AKA mutt, AKA American, which is right back where we started. HMM

A-men. In my opinion you live in America you're just American. My ancestors are from Germany and I don't go around telling everyone I'm German American, I am just American. Just like when Mexican people hang a Mexican flag outside there house with the American flag upside down that pisses me off, If you like Mexico so much GO BACK!! Just stating my opinion. Sorry not trying to jack this thread.
