Hasn't been much car talk so thought I'd try to stir things up a bit. Lets talk about first cars. Doesn't matter if it was the first one you bought yourself or the first one your parents bought for you, whatever. I doubt anyone had a Ferrari for their first car.

My dad was in the Air Force and we were stationed in Northern Japan at the time I started driving, this was in the late 1900's, 1995 is late 1900's. My dad is a cheapskate and bought probably the cheapest car he could find for me. I didn't complain, I was surprised he did that for me. And I'm sure it took added duties off him so now I could drive my sister around and take mom to get the groceries. My first car was an import, an import for Japan. It was a dark blue 85 Ford Laser, right hand drive, 4 banger with an automatic. I don't have any pics of it but it looks like the car below but mine was blue. I ended up plowing into a light pole in the middle of nowhere one snowy winter morning. The impact spun me 180 degrees, pointing me towards home. With coolant leaking from the radiator and oil from the pan I limped her home and that was the last time i drove it.

An old family car, basically the first new car my family bought when I was growing up was a maroon 85 Dodge Omni. it looks just like a VW Golf. Two adults and three kids sardined in that car. We drove it cross country a few times when I was little. We could reach back into the trunk and pull stuff out while we were on the move. You ever hear stories about guys building that 57 Chevy because his family had one when he was a kid. maybe it wasn't a 57 Chevy, maybe it was a 67 mustang or a Corvette or a Thunderbird. I want to rebuild an Omni someday. I think they're some of the ugliest cars but I'd be happy cruising one. I'd have to lower it and go with some 17s or 18s, maybe a chin spoiler, awe hell yeah fender flares!

Again, not our car but here's a pic of what it looks like.

My first car was a 1988 plymouth sundance. I saw a guy towing it one day. I asked him if he was towing it to the junk yard and he said yes do you want it. I said hell yes, but I only have $50. He said I will tow it to your house for $50 and the car is free! The whole drivers side of the car was banged up from bouncing into a semi.
The guy dropped it off and my dad and I got to work on fixing it and painting it.
Here is a couple pics...

Mine was a 1980 Camaro Z28 like this one but white, had the same color stripes and interior. I remember it like it was yesterday... it was spring 1980, I was 7 and my dad pulled into I don't remember the dealers name but the Chevy dealer in Bethel, we had a 1970 Pontiac Grand Prix was a pretty sweet car now that I look back had a 400 with the hood tac, and there what was to be my first car sitting on the show room floor. The sales guy greeted my dad we walked around the car several time and the guy asked my dad if he'd like to take it for the weekend.... I can't imagine doing that today without making a copy of their drivers license or anything, all they had was our Grand Prix. So my dad was like sure, we drove it all weekend. He went back on monday and did the paper work. That car was mine the day we drove it off the floor. I have font memeories of doing doughnuts in the old Eastgate Cinema parking lot every winter until it was actually mine. I remember one year my dad hit a chalk block doing those O so sweet doughnuts and busted the power stearing line. I had so many firsts in that car man it was great!!!!!!! I know where the car is now too they painted it red and it's been rotting since about 1995...

The first and only new car my parents ever bought was a 1973 olds cutlass supreme. Dad ordered it with the 350 4 barrel, police handling package and 15 inch wheels and tires. I remember sitting in the back seat and looking at the speedo when Dad drove to burlington going to the hunting and fishing club. i would ask" are we doing 90 or 100?" LOL!!! Dad would then slow down a little. Dad sold it to a neighbor kid and he put it dead center into a tree. I loved that car. I wanted it.

My dad was a salesmen for G E. He always had company cars. Keep them for 2 years and return them. Instead of returning one he helped me buy it. 4cyl, 4 door 1986 Buick century custom. I remember seeing that and being excited and a little confused at the same time. I wanted a hot rod, after all i was paying for it. He insisted I get a safe, slow car that he knew would be reliable. After all he drove it from new until 2 years later when I got it. It didn't take long for me to fall in love. It was white, fast (lol) and I could go waaaay further in this than on my bike. Well many reverse dough nuts (front wheel drive) and e brake dough nuts in the snow and gravel, and a few neutral drops I went through 3 count em 3 transmissions. After the last fix I was running on 4 bald tires. It was raining and I was coming back from delivering the sunday paper. About 6 am I was going down 75 north and I hit a puddle and the car hydroplaned. That was fun, I thought to myself. I sped up and continued the fun until the car started to spin. Right in front of Malibu raceway I hit the overpass and as I spun every corner of that car took on damage. I pulled to the side and got a ride home. A few hours later I went back and changed the tire and drove it home. That was the last time I drove it. My tattoo marks were on that overpass until they took it down about 10 years ago.

My first car was in 1979...a 72 light blue Pinto....it had a wierd option...a sunroof in the floor lol.......the floor board was gone...but it ran great....I remember the people were asking $200 for it and my Dad talked them down to $150...the ole car ran great...but I don't think it had a complete body panel that rust had not got to.....and the car was only like 7 or 8 years old...I stepped up a year later when I started working and saving some cash to a Grabber Maverick...that car was fun.

Mine was a teal 1984 Camaro Berlinetta with 700R4 and the "High Output" 305. I think it was something like 160hp.

I still have a soft spot for early 3rd Gen Camaros. I still think a Gen3 with an LSx and T56 swap would be a blast as a track rat.

I argued with my parents to no end to let me get a V8 mustang for my first car, but it wasn't gonna happen (good lookin' out parents). So, when I was about 14, we picked up a 1980 GMC Sierra from an old guy my parents worked with. It was used as a farm truck basically, but had 60,XXX original miles on it!!! The outside was maroon on top and bottom and white down the middle, but rusted all over. My parents helped me 50/50 restore it into a pretty nice old truck. I redid the interior and we got the bodywork done and painted. I wanted it painted silver, but the paint was too expensive, so I had it done in a real light grey LOL, kinda looked like shiny primer. I had the 350 breathing though a Flowmaster Super 40 with duals. It was loud and I loved it! It was such a beast and my friends and I put it through hell. I remember one time when my parents were on vacation, we had the great idea of doing burnouts down the driveway. We'd just start at one end and spin 'em to the other. Then, we tried to spray down the driveway with the hose while scrubbing on it with a big broom to get the marks off. Eventually we gave up and my parents came home to see the marks all down the driveway and the hose sitting right next to it. My dad was pretty heated. We were such idiots LOL. We would've done it out on the road, but a Sheriff lived two houses down. Good memories in that truck.

mine was a 1978 Buick special 2 door had the half vinyl roof. It was white on white. had the v6 in it,it had sat in a ladys garage my dad had worked with he traded a 1987 topps baseball card set for it. this was in 1988 or 9. was in good shape till i got a hold of it put the alumni slots on it and started fixing the surface rust on it used black primer. so i had a white car with black spots looked like a jersey cow LOL. all my buddies used to call it the cow well it eventually made it to all black primer. i remember going out with my buddys and not having no money for gas and rummaging through the seats for change. or the bald tires that were always low and swerving back and forth and laughing how it swayed. and then i put a set of hijackers on the back and gave it that jacked up look lol . had 2 15 in the back seat with a radio shack stereo in it. i bought a 77 camaro lt with t tops a couple years after i got the buick and it sat in the back yard for a couple months till i sold it. i miss that car.

My first was a 1965 Mustang fastback w/289 automatic. Maroon w/Black interior and dealer installed AC and GT exhaust trumpets.

Bought it in 1981 from a guy in Michigan who got it from California. Absolutely ZERO rust on the car !! Sold it 2 years later for what I paid for it and bought a new 1983 Mustang GT.

Sure wish I had kept it !! Be worth $$$$ today !!!

Stay away from my '77 Mustang II jason!!

My first car, Which I still have, is my '77 II, it has 65K on it, and it had 35K on it when I got it about 8 years ago.

The car I miss the most that was around when I was alive was my Mom's 79 (maybe '80) Ford LTD 2 door with a 302 Automatic... Gold with yellow vinyl interior, and a yellow vinyl half-roof... there is one almost identical at Besslers in Ky right now... I almost cried. lol That woulda been a cool sleeper

I would have loved to had my dad's 66 Mustang, or his 69 AMX 390 4-speed

My first REAL car, a 1959 Chevrolet Impala convertible (cat's eye tail lights). 283 cid 4 bbl, dual exhaust "Power Pack" engine with 2 spd powerglide tranny.
Simple AM radio. I freakin' loved that car. Installed Walker Continental glass pack mufflers on it and it sounded sweet. It was sky blue with a white top. It was a chic magnet too.
Traded it for a 1963 Impala, 327 with "3 on the tree". Hated it.

My first car was a '80 mercury capri..200 straight 6, 4 speed SROD stick....drove it for about 7 years..put ~80K miles on it. Last few years it just beat the snot out of it trying to kill the 6 banger so I could put a 302 in it. But the more I beat on it..the better it drove. Sold it when I bought my first 5.0L coupe.

I don't have a picture of it, but right after school I had an 85 honda prelude. That car seemed to run for weeks on a tank of gas, it hugged the corners, had a retractable moonroof and I drove it like I stole it and the only trble I ever had was that the timing belt broke. It must not have been an interference motor because I was humming along when it finally let go. Tore it down and put another in and I was back motoring again that next day!
I wish I could go back to being satisfied with a car of those standards. My life was so much less frustrating then.

My 1st car was a 73 Ranchero with a 351C, didn't get to drive it much, my 1st actual car I drove the hell out of was a 79 Capri RS, V6 4spd, lowered with a set of after market wheels, reall fun car, I repainted it and sold it got an 83 GT... the car that started all my custom cars...
My Dad always had Rancheroes when I was growing up.. he had a 63 Catalina, 3 on the tree, had the big aluminum hubs and big brakes, he would beat the hell out of that thing on Sat nights when we were leaving Florence after a night of racing.. Mom would always tell him to slow down..LOL I loved it..

My first car was a Hugger Orange 72 RS Camaro that the Police in Florence nicked named Beast (not because of performance, but looks) When I had it repainted I put The Beast on the quarter panels. I had some fun in that car but the one I missed the most was the wifes first real car, an 81 Olds Cutlass with bucket seats and center console shifter. It was a nice car and drove really well.

My first car that was mine and mine only was a 1973 Datsun 240z. My dad had autocrossed them for years so naturally I had to get one. Was a fun little car and we built it pretty close to our race cars. Only thing that sucked was it was a two seater and I went to Carlisle in the early 90's driving an import before imports were "cool"...my 1986 Mustang GT replaced it my senior year.

I would love to have both of those cars back. :(

The first car i ever bought was a 65 Mustang coupe. I owned it for two months and plowed into a center divide going 90mph. Wrecking that car was the best thing that happened to me. I learned so much rebuilding it over the next two years, it really gave me a great foundation with these classics.

My first vehicle that I owned was a new 1984 Ford Escort GT. Black with golf trim, sun roof, 5 -speed, 1.6L EFI Ricarro bucket seats (standard) and factory sun roof. The car also came with factory rear spoiler, front chin spoiler and Marcel Fog lights exactly like the ones on the GT Mustang for1984. The thing that sucked about the car was the TRX MIchelin 365mm rims and tires, THat was all you could opurchase for the car. They were expensive, but they stuck like glue.

I started off, with a '65 Chevy Biscayne. 4 door, 230 in line six with a power glide.

The ones, that got away (as in, Mom & Dad's)....

'70 Olds cutlass S, 350 Rocket, auto.

'76 Monte Carlo, 400 sbc, swivel bucket seats. It was powder blue, with a white landau top and fake wire wheels. A set of nice wheels and wider tires, that would be a cool car.

'72 Pontiac Bonneville, 2 door, 455. Pimp ride, fo' sho!

My first car was a 78 Z28 camaro. The first night i bought it i blew the motor up. I rebuild the motor and a month later i blew it up again and tore out the trans.I ended up trading it for a 80 toyota celica ,5 speed, sunroof and a nice alpine radio with a kicker system in the back. The car ran strong, but apparently i did not know its limits.

My first car was a '72 F100 pickup truck that I paid $150 for. It ran like a champ, but had more rust than metal. The cab mounts were so bad that when you would turn, the cab would tip causing the column shifter to come out of gear. My buddies dad told my mom it was unsafe to drive, otherwise I would have drove it anyways. Didn't even put 5 miles on it before I had to sell it. My first "driver" was a primered '74 mercury capri v6 4-speed. That car was a blast to drive, but I killed it 2 months later dumping the clutch in front of my buddies house:(
