I know this thread isn't for "discussion" but what did you just say?? E85 is junk?
Yes.....Yes it is!! Why build a race car and then shortcut it on fuel just to save a few bux. Just pony up the extra 15bux and throw atleast some turbo blue in it.

I would love to hear one vaild reason E85 is "junk" fuel and I don't mean because Billy down the street put it in his car and it blew up. E85 is no more a "junk" fuel than methanol, nitromethane, or anyone of of the dozens of leaded race fuels on the market. Like anything else it takes proper planning, proper parts, and proper tuning.

Not to mention that leaded fuel like Turbo Blue is no good for O2 sensors. At $40-50 a piece for Motorcraft O2 sensors race gas is even more costly to use.

I do know. Mike whitt with silver chevelle that says Blown Income on the hood switched to it and it has slowed down a half a second. And he's happy with it. If you can't afford to use the right fuel than you shouldn't build and engine that needs it. E85 takes like 32% more fuel and its only 100-105 octane depending on the season. Plus its a dirty fuel like diesel. So like I said run your crap gas and be slow. Guys like me with good gas will continue to laugh at you

Actually it has been tested and minimum octane rating for E70 (winter blend you are referring to) is 105 octane, and E85 in summer blend format is closer to 107-109 octane. I wasn't aware of the fact that E85 was "dirty" like diesel fuel is. Yes it does require a lot more voume to flow E85, and I have to admit maybe its only in boosted applications that E85 pays off? I am unsure about a N/A car. I personally know of a car that picked up as much as 100hp (roughly 70 more at peak) in the curve just by switching from 100 cotane to E85 (same boost of 21psi).
And listen pal, I am not here to be a forum badass, you call me out on a race trying to be a badass....I don't even know you and you throw shit at most people on this board. I don't know Mike Whitt but because this one guy tried it and slowed down that must make it true. There is a whole lot of informaiton being left out.
Dirty fuel? You have got to be kidding me. Ethanol burns cleaner than regular gasoline and way cleaner than that the leaded stuff you are running. There is a damn good reason the government banned leaded fuel for use on public roads in the 70's.
Cost has nothing to do with it. I could put VP fuel in my car if I wanted to but it would be a waste. The reality of it is that you can get E85 at far more places and for roughly half the cost of Turbo Blue and for far less than you pay for VP, Torco, etc.
Yes it takes roughly 30% more fuel to run a car on E85 and methanol takes roughly twice as much volume compared to gasoline. Does that mean the alcohol dragsters and funny cars that run at the track are running on "junk" fuel?

Nope you proved my point right here. I have a 4000lb vert. That is an EXCUSE. So is the fuel its like pump gas an EXCUSE for your car to be slow or not to be raced. CRY BABY gas. Its not even saving money because you have to build a fuel system around it and its not super easy to get so its not really convenient. Its simply cry baby fuel

How about this, we find a car that is fairly easy to tune (I'm thinking fairly high compression NA car) that has enough of a fuel system to support both race gas and E85 and we put it on a dyno to figure out which really does produce more power. I'll buy the fuel and split the dyno time with you.

We looked into it. Big Rob wanted the turbo car like that bad and after two months of research we figured out it junk. I knew after the first day but Rob wanted it bad so he spent lots of time looking into it. Plus my buddy Smack(stocknotch) was determined to make it work on his turbo car. It cost him 3 engines and he talked to all kinds of guys who ran it and spent countless hours on the web researching it. I talked him into making the switch to turbo blue and his car went from 9.80s on a good tune to a 9.20 on a soft tune. So I'm not running my mouth we've tried it, its shit!! So I'm cool if you run it you'll just have junk

NXcoupe, 05yellowgt, jeff88coupe, antirice347, recklessop, and white01 all are running or have run E85 without blowing up anything. Well got nothing better to do ha ha ! i will start off with saying e85 has it good points and bad . Does not have to many but does have a few . but imo the good out ways the bad in most combos . now for back to back compros last year jeff was having a problem with his car . I suggested taking it off e85 and runing it on race gas witch was easier to read the plugs . He did problem stayed car lost cant rember exacly but it was more than a tenth . Now i pay 17 bucks a gallon for race gas if i can ran as good or better for 2.50 a gallon that would be great!!! NOW HERE COMES THE BAD PART . There is not alot of people that know what they are doing with the shi.. e 85 dont blow your shi.. up a bad tune did . one of the benfites of it you can add more timing . Well theres were the gread comes in . on a bad air day or you get a good bach of the stuff you make good power 3 weeks from now the da drops like a rock and you get a lower bach bam hole in the piston . Once more poeple get used to it you will see it more in racing . And i got news for ya 10 years from now old obama is goiing to take my c-23 from me  so better start learning

I've been hearing guys like Pauls408notch getting around that problem by running those flex fuel sensors on the car that reads how much ethanol is in that specific batch of e85 going through the fuel lines. You need double the fuel system and special sensors that will out weigh the cost of an intercooler

E85 works. Jeff posted some very good links to check out if anyone wants to have an open mind about this. For the price it is a very good fuel for a boosted or moderately-high compressed engine with or without the sauce. You just need to understand how alcohol works and adjust accordingly. It's not just a matter of changing some jets or cranking the base pressure up on an efi setup, turning the distributor until "it sounds good," and going out making passes. You WILL blow your shit up doing things like that. It blows away ANY "normal" pump gas you'll find for anywhere near the price per gallon. You will need a checker like Jeff showed to be sure of what you have because some blends, especially the winter blend, will be different enough to need some changes in the tune from time to time. Is it the be-all and end-all of fuels? No. But it sure as hell beats most of what's out there for a high HP "street" car when looking at your options. No matter what you use for fuel, if you have your tune on the ragged edge (knowingly or not) sooner or later it will probably bite you in the ass.
Here's a link to what Gale Banks has to say about E85. He seems to like it, but what does he know?? :dunno:

:dunno:

That's why its junk. You can get bad real easy and how do you know when they change the octane? You don't and then you have blowed up junk. After you spend all the extra money to try to make it run right your really not saving any money. your not kidding me if you thought you could be faster and safer with it you'd be running it :)as i said it has good and bad points i use a fair amount of nos and tuning it on e 85 there is not info alot out there . nos unlike boosted or na combos you cant tune with o2s and other gauges reading the plug it what you have to do if you want it to live . and just like q16 it will make you more power but very hard to read the plugs , e85 is somewhere around 108 octane .. i need 119 to 122 octane on my junk :drunk:

Probably be minimal at best IMO. There are a lot of NA cars out there running way higher octane fuel than what they may actually need or what the engine wants. Too many factors (cam timing, combustion chamber, quench, etc.) to say for sure if you'd gain anything on your combo. Surprised you haven't tested it yet though.

Funny how timing will do that. Gotta find that sweet spot. I've seen 100+ rwhp gains with 1-2 degrees of timing on boosted combos.

Yeah, in my race car? I was talking about my supercharged street car. I have to run VP C10 in the race car because of rules. If I could run whatever, I would run E85 because of cost and access. I have to drive all over to get C10, usually buy all they have so I won't run out. If you don't like it, don't use it, but to each his own. I could use more octane with my car, that's for sure, it's limited now by the fuel octane.

Haha..wow the pot got stirred up. E85 isn't for everyone...but it works well for me. I did a back to back dyno with my car with 93 pump gas and E85. My motor is only 11:1...it doesn't need 110 race gas n/a. I did use to run a 50/50 mix of 93 and 110 when I was spraying over a 100 shot on it for some insurance. On the same dyno the same day I had my car tuned on pump 93. Drained the fuel cell...put it E85...got the a/f correct..didn't touch the timing. Car picked up 10rwhp on e85 vs 93. I think with the final tune we picked up a few more.....made right around 400 at the tire with my C4 and a nitrous converter. I also run my NX wet efi nitrous plate kit on E85. All I did was call NX's tech line to get a E85 jet map for my plate...and then get the correct fuel jets. I haven't sprayed more than a 150 shot yet...but that will probably change toward the end of the season. Right now I've been only spraying a 100 shot working on my 10.0 index tuneup.
I've got some big changes planned for this winter for the car. I'm going to be putting a turbo on my car. Going with a PT88/FAST XFI/PG setup.....will be a whole new animal next year that will still be running E85.

It wasnt the fact that he wasnt liked, it was the fact that he stirred the pot one too many times. He knew what he was doing, he wanted to see how far he could take his prying, and it got him banned. He has done it in the past and been allowed back on. His last time was enough and the ban stick was brought out. Simple.

Here we go again! Its almost time for the tracks to open! Time to get out and have some fun! Same "rules" as last year (as greatly outlined by Vinny and Craig):
Vinny said it best. It was his idea to see the areas fastest STREET Mustangs & Capris. In his words:

We're going to pick a test and tune day at the end of the season, have all potential dozen members meet at a set location and DRIVE to the track and make passes. This will weed out the 5 gallon fuel cell race cars, prove their street credibility as well as keep the list local. If you can't make a test and tune session around here then you aren't local. We may recquire that all dozen list members attend the fall cruise-in as well to once again prove their street creds as well as their involvement with this site. We don't need one-post-wonders claiming to be a SBZ member, making the cut and leaving somebody off the list with more of a street car and more time on this site.
So with that, I'll start the first round.
"His car isn't really a street car" is something I hear a lot. Problem is, everybody's opinion on what a true street car is will be different. As the rules sit right now, a street car is defined as having license, tags and insurance. I made it this way only to parallel the NMRA Wild Street definition. This is probably the toughest one to call so making these cars come out on the street to stay on the list will make things more fair in my opinion. This can be accomplished by requiring the cars to drive to the track at least once and/or showing up at our big cruise-ins.
Remember kids, this is for fun, bragging rights and a decal....nothing more. No big money prizes, no sponsorship deals, no trophies....just some good ole boys bringing out their cars and putting a beating on 1320 feet of tarmac!
Thanks for reading
Here ill post here since I am no longer allowed to post in the other thread. I just went back and read this for my self and I guess I was wrong. But however it does say umtr so those tracks should be included. Getting rid of the list will only lessen Stangbanger board activity. Its a problem every year because so many want to make the list. Everyone is competitive. The post count thing is a little sketchy but I've got more than enough so it really doesn't concern me. So if I get my car and engine back in time ill see about winning by the rules

-A true street, Ford powered Mustang/Capri with insurance, tags and registration matching the car.
-Owner may have had help building his/her car, but they will race it. No hired shoes to race for them.
-If you break, blow up, change combo, your off the list till you re-run the car. All times before are void. No "one hit" wonders. If fail to post up that you broke to delibratey stay on the list, you are off...PERMANENTLY.
Oh and one more thing...it is STRONGLY suggested you have the NHRA level safety equipment for whatever times you are running. Its not a requirement, but we want to be sure everyone is safe while they are having fun. Besides, most tracks now require the proper equipment.
Sorry here is where it says umtr. This should allow the umtr tracks

The post count thing is just plain crazy. You cant be on the computer and working on a car at the same time. Maybe some people would have faster cars if they got away from the keyboard.

We're probably going to show up with a. Whole lot of seriousness.
how many posts do you need? i have bought parts from members and met a few at the track. from what i have seen i agree with what some others have said, i am on sbz a decent amount. sometimes just to learn, or look for the latest parts for sale. and i really only chime in when i think i can help. but i dont think a post count is needed. then on the other hand i can see that you guys are trying to make sure that only true bangerz can be on the list. im not anywhere close to making the dd. just curios is all.
thanks

I would rather see vehicles with 4 wheels, but they are welcome. I wont be giving them a Top 12 sticker, but they will get a "event" sticker.:)

El Diablo is mine. Its just a maroon notchback with a few bolt ons, lol. The BC is a black 98 LS1 camaro owned by former member Yougotjunk. The grape ape is a purple 90lx owned by Metcalf. The Cracker is a white 89 notchback which also belongs to Yougotjunk. The Giant Squid is a black 87 notchback thats bonestock other than a gear and exhaust. Hope this clears everything up.
