as most of you know i had the cooling issue with the coupe and the loosing oil.
Well today mark came over and we went to town tearing it appart, got the upper off, the fan all the accesories (PS/alt/ a c ) you get the point took the plugs out. found some oil on the spark plug threads? also the water pump bolts and front cover bolts were loose for some reason like they were not tourqed down last time, but my goal basicly is find the oil issue and cooling issue, put on my sub frames and find decide between a 410 and a 373 gear for the rear. And get it ready for a power adder:bigthumb

That's a good start then, you might wanna check to find out what exact cam you have if your going power adder. If you dont have a good power adder cam you could take away potential power from what you could have with a good power adder cam.

I wouldn't run slicks with Nitrous on a stock tranny or rear end. Your chances of shitting out either one or both would be pretty damn good. If it was me I would hook up with some DR's, your gonna spin some but like the old saying goes "Whenever your spinnin, the tranny ain't givin."

I have ran 11s on both a stock t5 and stock axles/diff in a 3600lb car on slicks.

5000rpms. I know some others that went 10s on stock axles. Really though better axles and c clip elims are a must with a lot of power because if you shoot an axle out the rear end it will be a bad day.

Check out your head gaskets and make sure the holes for the water passages were on the back of the block. I have seen people put heads on, and they make sure the blue faces up on both sides, which puts the water outlet holes in the front on one side and the rear on the other. This causes the engine to get hot, push water out, etc. Its on the side of the gasket, two holes one on top of the other, they should both be in the rear towards the firewall. They are also marked top, which means face it up, but some people don't look. Hope you get it figured out.

the cooling isnt my worry really, its the oil usage. ive added a quart in 500 miles...? what does oil on the plug threads mean?

Oil getting passed the rings or valve seals would be my guess. Do you get a puff of smoke out the exhaust on startup? if so i'd say valve seals

1 qt in 1000 miles is considered normal on the early 80's 5.0's and any engine with low tension, race based oil rings. Oil on the threads can be valve cover gaskets leaking too. the overheating is probably a good reason the vehicle is using oil.
