I'm not sure. I never got that far in the process. Plus, it may be completely different format this time.

Here is the thread from a few years ago... the link no longer works but the principle of the rally is in the thread somewhere...

oh wow this thing could be huge and pay out a ton.....

They were just simply trying to start too big before. Entry fees were too high, age restrictions because of potential alcohol sponsors that "almost" happened, etc. This year they've asked me to help organize. I can promise it WILL happen. The potential here is huge, but you have to start somewhere. So, entry fee will be affordable, field size has been cut in half, it will be a ton of fun.
Details will be released on the website when it's launched. There is also a facebook fan club, just search for "The Rooster Challenge."
Oh, the pic in the OP is a link to the site... for when it launches.

Yeah, that's actually on our facebook page, so no big deal.
It'll be 10-10-10. ;)
We're going to be running three "pilot" runs through the summer. We'll be selecting 4 cars to run each.
We're going to be calling for volunteers soon to help run the rally the day of. We're going to need chase/camera cars, checkpoint volunteers, etc.
This thing should be very interesting...

Certainly, how kick butt would it be to have a 300hp Pinto Wagon pulling up the rear of the show? :bigthumb

lol... umm, yes. http://www.theroosterchallenge.com <=== song is already on there :P lol
I was interested last time, but I'm a lot more interested with a lower entry fee.
Don't take this the wrong way, but don't expect people to shell out a lot of cash for the first event you guys throw. A small amount so that there is actually some level of commitment is good, but if memory serves the amount that you guys were looking for people to spend last time was unrealistic.
Less prize money, lower entry fees, and a generally low-profile event are what I would recommend...if it's successful, then something higher profile/higher cost for 2011.
Just my two cents. :)

Gene, this was an absolute condition of my involvement. We've set the fee at $100, but won't know the payouts until we know where sponsorship is going. The rest of the details have been worked out, and will be released when the full site is launched. However, I can tell you that what you are suggesting is what we've already done.

$100 is a perfect entry fee.
I think the focus on the event should on having fun, not on the payout. The last thing you want is people taking it too seriously, and a big purse can cause that.

That's the focus. Our philosophy approaching this event is to do whatever it takes to make it happen and to make it fun. For instance, we'll be limiting the field to a set amount of cars that won't overwhelm us. I'd rather have 25 teams telling about how much fun they had, than 50 teams complaining that things were poorly organized.
We've gotten some good feedback and looks like we'll end up with a pretty diverse field, from Hondas to Mustangs to Ferraris.
Broad strokes... we're going to have a "show n shine" on October 9th, the day before the event. There will be a fun competition that will determine the order in which the teams will start the event. The event will start and finish in the same location, and we expect it will take about 6 hours to complete. Between the start and finish times, we'll have various forms of entertainment going on... live band etc.
We're thinking we're going to need about 25-30 volunteers to help on the day of the event to work checkpoints etc. If anyone is interested, please drop me an email to http://www.theroosterchallenge.com/images/hardcore_email.jpg

Web dev guy is developing the site using a CMS called Joomla. We've not used it before and finding it doesn't naively have ACL and that effects our forums, team areas, sponsor areas, etc. At any rate, it's come down to a learning curve. We think tho, it should be up in the next 30 days or so.
If you'd like to help out, please shoot me an email to http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i111/cga1974/rooster_email.jpg
Please understand that this is going to be all volunteer, but we will certainly appreciate any help we can get.
We've also secured some pretty sweet digs downtown for our launch party. Should be sweet. I'm really excited to share details!
