Hey folks. Does anyone know if it is possible to install a 4 or 5 point racing harness while still retaining the usage of the back seat?

Do you have a roll bar?

If you don't, I wouldn't install either a 4 or 5 point.

You may be able to do a search, as this has been discussed, before.

I do not have a rollbar or a rollcage. I know that Corbeau sells a mustang specific harness bar that is SUPPOSE to still afford rear seat usage, but im skeptical. I would like to install them for the looks until I actually need them lol. Has is been discussed on here before?

Yes, it was discussed, but I can't find a thread.

I think it had to do with the belts keeping you upright, in the seat, in the event of a roll over.

You can mount a Harness bar across the rear seat area that will give you the proper alignment to mount your harness. I DO NOT reccommend having rear seat passengers with a harness bar or roll cage! (In the event of an accident the bars become a point of solid impact with heads).

BUT - I do not reccommend using a harness in a car without a rollcage (even with the harness bar). Jeff hit the nail on the head. If you are in a rollover your roof will collapse right into you with you being firmly planted upright. There was a link on this site a long time ago with some photos and a story about someone that was killed doing just this (he was actually a friend of a good friend of mine). Stock Lap belt with shoulder strap allows the flexibility of movement yet holding your ass in place.

Ok, so basically if I install the harness bar it's more dangerous for the rear passengers, but safer for me up front. But if I dont install the harness bar, it's more dangerous for me up front and safer for the folks in the rear?
