Well I decided to start another build thread for my FHP SSP. I am going to be swaping the motor here in the next couple weeks from a wrecked 60k mile '88 GT. This thread will be way different than any others on here, because I am going for a stock rebuild and appearance. Planning on swaping the motor and all the other little things in the engine bay. Putting a stock H-pipe back on, maybe swaping out the rearend, and of course painting the engine bay. The exterior of the car is mostly done already. The only things I will be changing are the fender decals to the correct size and style, adding an FHP style lightbar, and putting the correct rear deck lights on. Interior is in very good condition for being tan and all original. Not sure if I will change the carpet out but I might...wait and see on that. Also will change out the rear deck when I switch out the deck lights.

Here are a couple photos of the car as it sat this past fall. Will post some pics up of the donor car later today or tomorrow.

How the hell did you get all the electronics with it?

Actually I have to give the guy I bought it from credit for that. It has the correct working radio and period correct working radar...but I think FHP ran S80's not K55's. The rear deck lights are not correct, but I have a correct set of original Dash Master strobes for it. I also have the correct chain drive Jetsonic lightbar for it too.

Thank you, I do like the two tone SSP's. NCSP had some nice looking ones too.

Here are some motor pictures of the parts car I will be using. I am taking the motor for sure and maybe the rear end. Also will take other little odds and ends that are in better shape than the FHP's. Afterwards I plan on selling whatever is remaining of the car...which should be a lot.

I will try to sell it whole once I get everything out that I want. I have one guy intrested on the SSP board...which is the guy I bought the FHP from. If he ends up not wanting it I will offer it here or put it on ebay. Car is not worth saving...at least at what it would cost me.

Here is a pic of the hit she took:

Guys wife was driving and the pavement was damp. Went sideways into a pole and this is the end result. The guy had owned this car since June 1992.

From the A pilar forward everything is in great shape. Entire passenger side is in great shape. The rear bumper, lights, and hatch are also in great shape. The porno red interior almost looks brand new. The Turbine wheels have no curb rash either.

As far as the SSP nothing is wrong with the motor other than age. Smokes a little bit after highway driving but that is about it. Car has almost 190k on it and other than changing the valve cover gaskets and rear seal the engine has never been touched. It will be going in the corner for if I ever want to rebuild and put back in.

I always imagined that if i did restore my car, i would still have to build a nasty but streetable 347 for it but still build it to look bone stock. That way it would finally have the "police engine" like everyone thinks they had.

Yeah, someone on the east coast has a FHP they did that with. The only other thing they changed was a cowl induction hood...looked bad ass. The only mod this thing may get is the 3.27 rear from the GT put in replacing the 3.08.

Well today I received one of the hardest items to find when doing a stock restoration...spark plug wires. Found a guy on the Corral that had a 1988 set with only 20k miles of use on them. Had pulled them off in the early 90's and put them in a box on the shelf.

I also was able to drive the parts car and get it turned around to begin tearing it apart.

Finally...everthing as come together today that I can actually get to pulling the motor out of the parts car. If all goes well it will be out on Sunday and what is left of the GT will go on ebay.

Yeah, her comment was..."Great, now that it's F'n warming up." Which was said in fun, she is very supportive of my addiction.

I am probably not going to be parting it out...will take too long and I need my garage space back so I can bring my convertible home from storage. I am going to sell whatever is left at one time.
