I'm thinking of adding some SLP LM1s or LM2s to the car. Opinions?

Sounds nice as it is now. are you looking for something different? How about going back to stock exhaust and adding electric dumps? THink about it, sittin atthe light sluightly louder than stock with the LT's and O/R H -pipe, when suddenly "click" wide open exhaust right off the collectors. Cincy speed has been doing them on 2010 SS CAmoaros. TIme we get in on the act as well. I am looking toward something like this next spring.

BTW are you going to the Northern KY meet @ noon on 4/10? IT's at the Red Robin next to Hooters in Florence. Get some folks to cruise over there with you.

If you want to go with the SLP LM1's I will have a set I can sell you. I am going with MAC mufflers swapped into my LM1 catback. And they are not as obnoxious as people are saying, however with longtubes and/or off road x pipe they will be a bit raspy and more "exotic" sounding if you will. I Have kind grown to like them, and actually at WOT the slp's sound great, just a bit raspy under half throttle between 2500-3000 rpm's. I am just curious to how the MAC mufflers change my exhaust sound and have always loved MAC on a 4.6.

If you are going turbo kit, stick with a straight through muffler like a magnaflow or something like that. chambered exhaust don't work well for some reason.

I'd go with something louder than what I have if my wife wasn't such a PITB about the least little bit of drone in the car. I like for her to go with me to cruie-ins and car shows, so I am stuck with a stinger style axle back and possibly some shorties or a Kooks LT setup that comes with the high flow cat system that helps to minimize in car noise. I miss the old setup I had on my 02 GT, Bassani H/F catted X with Magnaflows. She hated it. Loud enough to turn heads but not so loud that 16 year olds would roll their windows up becuase of the noise when you rolled up next to them ata stop light. LOL!!!!!

I've got Mac LT's/O/R Prochamber/ and Pypes Violator out the back. I really like the sound. It's pretty doscile under normal driving, but it really wakes up under WOT.

Loud exhaust gets old. For my own ride, Id rather have it nice and quiet.

how much different is Mac exhaust from Flowmaster?

redfirepearlgt
04-07-2010, 09:58 PM
Bassani mid pipe has the best fitment in my experience, with no leaks around the collector. I originally went with a Mac O/R midpipe that never sealed right at the collector on the passenger side no matter what I tried. I hate exhaust leaks. The Bassani is a higher priced unit but worth the trade off for better fitment. NO leaks. Keep in mind that this was on an 02 edge GT I had and mot my current vehicle.

No clue. I know flowmaster is a lower performing aftermarket exhaust, but I've never really researched mac. They do sound similar though. I hear good things about magnaflow, and obviously borla.

I am a huge fan on MAC exhaust, had it on an 02 GT, 00 GT, 00 Lightning and a 91 5.0. For the 99+ cars I HATE MAC catback fitment. Every one I have seen has an issue with a crooked passenger side tailpipe because of how they are designed. But love the sound so I am going to Manny at Mac Performance and having him make some stainless mufflers that slip into my SLP catback. On a modular motor I really don't think you get an overall better sound than MAC. That is my opinion though.

My self I like Bassani . I have them on my Fairlane and everyone knows its me as only one other person in my town has them but he has a smaller camshaft which makes a big difference in the sound . I have installed so many Flowmasters I can hardly stand the sound of them anymore unless its a big cam big , compression motor . Also as stated by another member chambered mufflers and turbos are not a good mix . Koi ( Cincy Area )or Undercar Service Warehouse (Dayton Area )sells a a Muffler called a Xlerator I have used these on V8 turbos and 4 banger stuff and they have a decent sound and are straight through like a Magna Flow . I put 2 of them on my friends turbo Caddy and it was really quite at idle .

I went from running an open y-pipe to just bolting a single chamber magnaflow bullet on...cut the sound in half probably. Still loud compared to most cars out there, but much better than straight pipes LOL.
