Why is it that some people think that there going to get a perfect car for "SUGGESTED RETAIL VALUE" off KBB and explect you to take it? I just had a joker call me and tried to KBB me and then offered me $3500. I started laughing, called him an idiot and hung up on him. Do these people understand what market value is? My car is not perfect but it's real nice and will drive anywhere so I listed my 98 GT for $4800 OBO under new paint and some goodies. Suggested Retail of Both KBB and NADA is $5600. I can't stand people that think if they call and insult you that you will take less. Before I called him an idiot I did tell hem "that's the reason you'll never own one!" He said "all you mustang owners think your car is worth gold".
If you have ever been KBB'ed before, tell your story. I think this would be a good topic for sellers wanting to kick these people in the shins :)

You know being in car sales for a number of years I went through this a number of times, but instead of getting mad which I know we all love our cars and value them alot but maybe instead of getting mad why not try to educate them on why your car is worth what you're asking. They really could just be trying to purchase outside of they're budget which we can all say we've been there and done that. Bottom line is they might not buy you're car right away but when they go out and look at 20 other cars that are the same price or less and they find out it's a lessor car they might step up and buy yours but if you just cut them off tell them they are stupid and kbb doesnt sell cars not only will they not buy yours but if they knew anyone else that might be looking they won't tell them either well theyll tell them how this dick wanted too much for his car and called him an idiot not how some stand up dude who has an outstanding car that's worth what he's asking.... just my .02

I understand what your saying, but when all the guy says says as a responce is that your car isn't worth what your asking because of what KBB is saying and when I tried to explain what KBB reflects and is and he called me stupid to think the car is worth what I am asking. And then he shot me a lowball offer. Just a joker nothing else.
I simply told him that if he is going off KBB then he will never own one. :) He replied and said that all of us Mustang owners think that are cars are worth Gold and that we were all stupid for asking the money we ask for our cars.
Anyways.........I just thought this would be a fun topic for the Rants.

I feel ya dude, and I'm sure after about 20 of those i'd be telling them off left and right too, either way you can't sell a car over the phone get them out and get them in love with it, it looks super clean so shouldnt be too hard....... I think Chris91 needs to pipe in I've never heard of so many bad stories with selling cars.

Speaking from my experiences, it is the truth. I have seen many cars, lightly to mildly modded, going for car value with a 1 to 1 dollar value on mods. Give me a fucking break.
Plus most lending institutions don't lend "mod money".

yeah most of the time mods on the car don't increase value much unless the car is supercharged or something. When I pulled up the car on KBB and NADA Market value was 5600+. This guy was trying to tell me that my car and all the others out there are valued at rough trade in value. :) I'm not upset or mad, but it does make me wonder what people are thinking or what they have been told. I guess it comes down to always wanting something for nothing. I have a cousin that thinks the same way and some people will never understand.

I've been on the other side of the KBB deal. I was looking to buy a car. Went and looked at a 350 Formula and the rear quarters were rotted around the wheel wells, the car was idling rough and it was burning oil. He was asking $2500 and had a print out of KBB Whole value for excelent condition and it was the same price. I just told him that there was too many things wrong on the car and I wasn't looking for a builder just a driver.

At least your getting guys who at least look up the value. I've entertained so many tire kickers it's not even funny. Even if their going off rough trade in you can show them how to read and what the values really mean versus trade in/wholesale/retail. If he still haggles on a nice car you at least have the joy of kicking him off your property or telling him to stick it in his arse.
Worse deal deal I ever had was a buick I sold for my neighbor a few years ago. His inlaws passed away and left it to him. He traveled a lot and I told him I would stick it in my yard and unload it for him. It was a purlpe grandpa mobile with the soft top and wire hubcups on whitewalls. I didn't place some high elevated price on the car, nor did the owner even though it was immaculate and garaged with low miles. He wanted rid of it.
Long story short a few original gangters came to look at it and took it for a long test drive. They were gone for 25 minutes but only traveled 3 miles in the car. They got back offerered "5 bills" and after i found out how much 5 bills was i asked them to leave. I got suspiscious and canvased the hardware store down the street where the clerk told me an hour ago some guys (not me) came down and got a key cut for the car I was in.... I boxed it in my driveway by parking it in with an RV and a number of trucks. I left a note under the wiper that the car was never going to be in a postition to be freely snatched and that if they could read the note they were within rifle range. Two nights later the note dissappeared but the Buick remained.
A middle aged women from Indy bought it for her dad as a birthday present 3 weeks later, she paid the asking price and wasn't concerned with the spare key floating around citing geography.
Everything reasonably priced sell's eventually.

As with anything it is wroth what someone is willing to give you. I often have trouble trying to get KBB value for cars. It comes down to do you really want to sell it or not. I never offer people more than KBB value on a car.

Dont even get me started. I had too many assholes tell me they were coming out to buy my 99 GT and promise they wouldnt flake. Then I had to deal with the clueless morons telling me I was asking too much because it was over KBB. Sorry, Mustangs DO NOT sell for kbb 90% of the time. A lot of cars are like that. I basically gave the 99 away, you couldnt find one as clean for the price I let it go for.

I like to ask them how much KBB charges for mods. How much does KBB add for a cam, headers, gears, fuzzy dice and a barefoot gas pedal?

A little off topic but has anyone been asked "How Much" at a gas station by a guy you know couldn't afford what your car is worth?
Eventhough I wouldn't consider selling my car for fair market value, I always reply with "Everything is for sale, I just don't think you'd like the price tag on this car." ;)
