hooking up a tach

ok need help, i got a used auto meter tach and need to know what wires go where. i got 4 wires a black, white, red, and green and then 2 really thin wire that i think you cut if running a 6 or 4 cyl but if remeber right none get cut if it is a v8

Black - Ground
Red- Hot
White- Light
Green - Coil
