i have a 87 4 cylinder coupe that i converted to a v8 with mass air. it has stock bottom end with performer heads, 1.6 roller rockers, e cam, street heat intake, stock 19lb inj. 70mm tb, c&l pipe with c&l meter with a 19lb sampeling tube, mac long tubes xpipe flowmasters.
I cant get the thing to idle ( up then down then dies) and it has a dead miss when you rev the engine to about 1500 to 2000.
If anyone has any ideals let me know thanks!

check the idle air valve, and the wires. Then check the tps

At the bottom of the Idle air is a connector. They tend to work themselves loose. I had a similar problem. It turned out a wire was shorting out on the block.

Does it have an msd box? I had one go bad on a small block s-10 I had and it would miss from arounf 2800-3400 then clear up. As for the surge, deffinitely check the iac valve

changed the iac, checked the wires, nothing wrong so for s&g i changed the air flow sensor. that helped the idle out a bunch but it still has the miss

My Stang had a miss at 4k rpm and turned out to be the distributor cap/rotor. Did not have any cracks in cap or anything. Didn't ever know why. I had replaced plugs, wires, iac and everything before the dizzy cap/rotor. Didn't think it would wreak that much havoc, but it did.

if the miss is only at idle, check for vac. leaks, check all vac hoses, plastic fittings, etc. use a spray bottle of water, u can spray the wires down at the same time and look for some sparkage. not to insult, but could you have overlooked a dropped plug? (no gap)

my car did the same thing, i checked every thing these guy are telling you, and found it would get a little better each time i messed with it. i replaced the IAC,vacume lines, vacume fittings, mass air meeter, you name it lol. but the last thing i replaced was the ICM on the side of the distribiter. the one i had was new so i never checked it.
the things these guys are telling you to check are the most common, find you a buddy and borrow his ICM for a few min and see if it helps good luck.
