Hofman Motorsports/Heffner Performance TT Ford GT breaks the standing mile record at 266.9 mph. For those of you who don't get how sick that is, the Bugatti Veyron's top speed is 254mph as tested by Top Gear, and it took the car 5 miles at WOT to reach that speed. This GT goes even faster and does it in only 1 mile. That's hardcore. Granted it's not "stock" like the Veyron is either, but the Veyron is also a million dollars.

Good god... I can only imagine the brute force of that engine in that car... and how it's trying to rotate the earth on it's axis every time the throttle goes down... nuts...

You'd need a G-suit to drive that thing!

I saw two TT GT's at the TX2K10 event down in Houston and to say these cars are impressive isn't even coming close.... I hope to own one of these one day.

It's just amazing that the car doesn't go airborne at those speeds. Ford must have really done a good job on aero on the GT.

On youtube there is a twin turbo ford gt racing a busa turbo and they were on a long iraq highway and the busa took off and the tt ford gt come buy that bike like he was not even there ,,and i might add the ford gt was clocked at 242 mph and still climbing. That car was a rocket.

At speeds well above 200 mph, I'd wonder how long the tires could take the strain. I think Top Gear reportrd that the tires on the Veyron were special production and were only good for a few minutes at top speed.

That's a good question about the tires.

They said something like the tires would only handle the heat for like 15 minutes but it wouldn't ever matter because at top speed you only have about 5 minutes worth of gas with a full tank.

A long time ago i saw a documentary on the EARLY days of auto racing, back when nobody had ever even gone 60mph. There was some really old guy who was a kid during all of it and he said people thought your face would peel off at 60mph. I bet if you could time travel and put Henry Ford in this car he'd have a heart attack.

I saw on discovery or history channel that it was believed in the if you exceeded a certain speed you would enter cardiac arrest and die, it must have been around the whole leeches/blood letting prescription erra.
