If you have a roller cam just drive the car try not to keep the same RPM all the time for a few miles.

Thats exactly the way I break all of mine in and I couldn't be happier with the results! Someone gave me that article a few years ago, and what that guy says makes alot of sense.:bigthumb

I just plan on taking mine to whoever I'm going to have put the tune on the car and have them break it in on the dyno.

The last 2 new motors I've broken in have had less than 30 minutes run time before they saw the first passes at the track. Break them in just like how your going to be driving it...In my case that is WOT :)

Try and find some open road then, like 48 late at night or something and do the process that is in that link posted as best you can.

I used to break them in on the street like in that article linked above. now we just put it on the dyno and put a load to it and have at it. A lot less risk for a ticket or issues out on the road. Good way to break in a clutch as well, not much chance to drive my race car around to break in a clutch, so on to the dyno it goes.

Every engine I've assembled(more than 2 hands and 2 feet:D) Race engines or even mild street engines get a Cheap non-detergent oil for break in(run in or 20 to 30 minutes run time) varing the rpm ,few small revs in between. Then, afterwards I change the oil(put in my favorite oil "castrol") check the valve adjustment, look for leaks, double check timing, carb adjustments etc.THEN I load it up and take it to the race track and do some full throttle runs...:bigthumb..Yes,totally agree best way is to run it hard...
Tim,Tony @ B.E.S is a great guy,He and I have spoken several times over the years and he always helped me out in a pinch...:bigthumb

Castrol Oil is the best.Ive used nothing but that. And its odd,the one time I did switch over to Valvoline,I spun a rod bearing. Now I buy case's of WIX filters from one of my rep's at work and Castrol from Oreillys.

I Have always used Castrol myself, but with todays regulations not even Castrol has the most zinc in it anymore, The best to use is a racing oil, I use Valvoline VR1 Racing oil, costs twice as much but works great and has the most minerals, I use it in my boat engines, they see way more abuse then a car engine and are fine, I highly doubt any oil would cause a bearing to spin, that is almost impossible, bearing spinning is due to lack of pressure, volume, and clearance, I have ran auto zone crap oil for break in and even never had an issue, The only real issue is with flat tappet cams, if you have roller cam, anything will be fine as long as it's done right.
People will blame bearing issues on oil, oil filters, and so on, not the case, I was told that Fram HP filters suck and will kill a engine, I relate alot of abuse to boat engines as I have 2 454 in mine and they get beat good, I have friinds that have run Fram filters with 1200 HP, so how can they be junk? I run K&N mainly since they look nice (hate orange) but have ran Fram with no issues either...
Build it right and all will be well!! Good luck and go racin!

Meh.
Maybe it just happened for who knows what. All I know is,it happened when I changed the oil to valvoline.Like the very next week.Maybe im just superstitious. If one thing works, why change.
