We just took out the EGR on my 04 Mach 1. The vacuum hoses are going to be plugged. Now my question is, do I have to get it tuned for it to run right? Im trying to finish up putting headers in today, and make it to the cruise tomorrow. What would happen if I drove it un tuned? The reason for us taking the EGR off was the nut from it to the header stripped, and I have no use for the EGR anyways.

with the egr off the car will try to turn it on. when this doesn't happen it with throw a check engine light causing the car to go into "limp mode" where it adds more fuel and takes some timing away. You can drive it like this with no problem. Just won't perform at optimal efficiency. A tune is needed to turn it off

any back up? The EGR is about to be welded closed for good... I dont want to find out ITS NOT DRIVABLE after I do it. I would plan on having it tuned in the future though.

Leave the egr on don't remove it. Why are u welding it closed? I choose not to mess with my evap syystem on these motors.

The threads to the EGR on the header were ruined when we got it. I did a decent job fixing them, but when the nut to the EGR stripped getting it off, I knew we were screwed. The two didnt go together, and just made each other worse. But, as of now we tapped header EGR bung and put as bolt in it, and are plugging the stock EGR too. We'll see what happens :(

Stop whining lol. EGR is for pussies. Yank that shit off, plug the holes and you'll be fine. YOu'll have a check engine light until someone turns the EGR off, but you'll be okay, I promise lol.

I wouldn't weld anything. The block-off plate and cap for the headers is available from Ford.

We welded the EGR provisions on my pacesetter headers...but that's b/c I was a dumbass and ordered them with provisions, and when we ditched EGR I needed them closed up.

WTF? Did you buy LT headers and run the wrong mid pipe or what? Sounds like you need a custom mid pipe

dunno, the guy I bougth them from said it was a mid pipe and headers for an 01 Cobra=Mach 1. But its not lining up... sigh, I guess ill be cruising in the Taurus tomorrow.

Sounds like you got fooled. Order shit from Jegs or summit, it will fit if they say it will. And if it doesn't fit you can return it and say they sold you the wrong shit.

Sounds like ya'll got some jank shit! My cheapo pacesetter headers and ORY lined up pretty damn nice. LT's ftw.

Well its in, its driving, and its not perfect. IDK what I changed, but I need an alignment :( I can live with it for now. I dont think it has any leaks. It sounds a bit like AJs Cobra I guess from the BBK X pipe. I like it, you dont know its on at 2k rpm, but about 2500 it rattles and puts out some big sound. Im not sure if its running right, and I might have a minor vacuum leak. It idles a bit low, and seems to bog almost from a stop. I never have reved it past 4k, I dont think I will till I get it tuned to run right. As long as it hols im happy :)
