That "Rubik's Cube" rear caliper adapter tool used for rotating the calipe in to install replacement rear pads is a piece of &%^$&$^$&*$%(!!!!!!!!!!!!! Does anyone know why I can purchasethe tool designed specifically for the job that works like a compression device while it rotates the piston? I know I can "borrow" one from Autozone but since I did not buy from them I felt bad about going in there to do that. I'd rather have one. Every one of the "chain" parts places I went to only had the stupid Rubik's cube style. Thanks.

I bought a good set that compresses normal calipers too and I never have any problems. I have never used one of the cubes, do you put a c-clamp on them or what.

the cubes go on the end of a 3/8" extension and allow you to twist the caliper piston into its compressed state

You sort of answered your own question when you stated that you tack welded one onto the end of a C-clamp. :bigthumb I would do that very same thing IF I had a mig welder but I don't. It is a pain trying to use a 3/8 drive while keeping those pins lined up on the piston, pushing in as you crank the piston sw, blah, blah, blah. Fact is I can't chew gum and walk at the same time. Let me know what store you are at and I will order one from you. The Silverton location did not have the item. Thanks.

They fit a 3/8" drive. You then (using an extension) get the cube oriented into the piston holes and then begin the process of turning and pressing in at the same time. It's a pain in my opinion. But then again I am getting older so I am more easily annoyed HA!!!!

How do you push in as you go?By hand? Mine you turn a little, tighten a little, turn a little, tighten a little, etc....

Same thing, you only worded it better. I turned about 1/2 turn then pushed in slightly. Turned out in the end I did not need to replace the pads after all. Just needed to torate in enough to get them over the repalcement rotors. Compared to the new pads the ones on the car still had about 2/3 life left in them. The rotors on the other hand were butt! I am assuming the person before me replced the pads once and reused the rotors based on the amount of wear on the rotors compared to the pads. Put the rotors (400 miles wear) I bought from Beefcake (thanks Beef) on and took a drive. Working nice.

This tool here works better than the cube. Im not sure of the quality of this brand here but it beats paying $60+ for a snap-on one.

That looks allot like the set I have. I bought mine from quality tools in hillsboro, they used to run a truck in my area.

Thanks. Let me know if you want a little gas money and I will supplement the cost a bit for the delivery. Or better yet let me know what time you are going to be at Cincy Speed and I will meet you there. I have to drop off my mustang for some clutch work.

Sometimes you can just turn it with some needle nose pliers....

I took an old socket and ground it down so that 2 little tits stick up that would engage the caliper - makes it real easy!

With my dexterity or lack thereof I'd jam those long nose pliars right through my hand. LOL! The socket idea is a better suggestion. Thanks for the feedback. Missed you at the cruise in. Hope to see you around the area in the summer months.
