chevy 6 speed in mustang

ok here is the deal, i have been thrown around idea of putting a 6 speed in the mustang and was woundering if anybody has tried it. i am thinking get a 6 speed out of a z28 or trans am since you can find them at a ok price. so does anybody know if there is a bell housing to make this work

You should be able to find a bell for it, but I think the distance from the bell to the shifter will be a couple inches longer than a mustang t56 if I remember correctly.

You'll need a lot more than a bellhousing.

I'd keep an eye out on corral for a Ford unit. Best and cheapest way to get a 6 speed.

LOL a T56 is a T56 besides a few differences to fit into the different cars (and gearing of course). Hell, aren't the Tremecs most of us use a GM trans anyways?

Anyway, Fordfan (Kenny) on here, i believe his T56 is out of an SS. If i recall he had to change the input shaft and a bunch of crazy PITA things, also had to change the yoke on his drive shaft and just a bunch of really aggravating stuff. After watching him go through it, i would wait for a Ford trans myself, but it can be done.

If Kenny still has the same T56 he bought out of Indy, that's a Ford T56.

He had some kind of issue with the main shaft being a different spline or something...he had to order a special yoke for the trans and it ended up being the wrong length and a bunch of dumb crap.
