OK I saw the thread of the big bass that 85_SS_302 posted and thought Id start this. Lets see some pics and hear the old drunken fish stories! I guess Ill start it out!
Ill start with this one. My wife caught this on my pole last night while I went to the bait shack to get more bait at Cast Away paylake. Its the only one she caught so Ill let her take the credit!

Also known as Paddlefish. I have never seen one in person. Looks like they would be hard to catch.

LOL.For all I knew it was some kind of fresh water shark....:lol:Its mouth was HUGE to say the least.Seems theres a certain time of year people can go SNAGGING for them.Learned alot about them.Just do happens a Game Warden came by prob a hour later and if I hadnt thrown it back I would've been in some trouble.I was too close to the dam (have to be like X amount of feet from the dam). And it wasnt in season to catch.:eek:But I had thrown it back like I do all Fish I catch.

I don't have any other good pictures of fish i've personally caught...just some cell phone pics, nothing over 10lbs as far as catfish go. The one posted above is as big as i've ever caught them myself but i didn't really start fishing until last year (aside from when i was little).
Anyone familiar with the memorial park here in Eastgate? There's a little pond in the back...very small. Last year my daughter's 1 year bday we were there and these two guys came up fishing in that pond, and me and my brother laughed to each other and said "man there's nothing in this mud puddle". They brought two 12 foot surf rods...we just laughed cause it was so overkill for such a tiny pond.
Well, about an hour later the guy pulled this SOB out:

It had to be 40lbs or more....biggest cat i've ever seen in person. He said "that's nothing, there are 60lb shovelhead in this pond" and pulled out his phone and showed me pictures of fish he caught right there that make this one look like a tadpole. You can't tell from the angle of the pic but his head is 2x as wide as what you see from the side.

Man i'm sunburned to hell and back right now from fishing. It's been a big relief lately since my car is away getting paint and i have nothing else to blow off steam with. It's funny, i'm perfectly content pulling in bluegills all day but man the cats haven't been biting for crap this year where we've been fishing.
Someone tell me some not too far away places around Eastgate/Milford/Amelia to fish where it's free or i can get in with a fishing license. There's a gravel pit in Newtown that is AWESOME but it's private property and we've been thrown out once so that's out now. I'd like to find a place that isn't over fished and is private. We don't drink and cause a ruckus, we don't litter...we'll be real respectful to your property and we're strictly catch and release :D

HorseShoe paylake in Williamsburg off 133 I think is pretty nice. It has to be one of my favorties. No fishing license required at those types as well but you do have to pay to fish but you could win money too!

I've been to horseshoe but it's been years. What's the going rate these days for fishing at pay lakes?

What are you guys using for bait as far as catfish go? We've been using liver of course but man it gets OLD having to bait up every 5 minutes. At the park there's a lot of turtles and those bastards go right after it. Something we've always used for catfish which is kind of a family secret is pork steak. Cut it up and put it on in chunks. It works great when they're biting but we're always looking for something different to try. Our current idea is to use gold fish that you buy from pet stores for feeder fish. They're cheap and shiny but i'm worried that with the size hooks we're using they'll die fast.

I use live bluegill, crappie, and bass. Size depends on alot too. I think the price is around $15 to fish for 12 hrs. Goldfish work fine too but their hit/miss. Ive used live bait up to 1lb with good luck. The bigger the bait the bigger the fish. If ya ever want to hit up HorsShoe hit me up and Ill try to meet ya there. Im always up to catch some fish!

Another cheap bait I use for channel cats is boneless chicken breast soaked in sweet anise oil or a strawberry oil. Works great and stays on your hook and dont fly off when you cast!

We went to Cast Away last year and got skunked except for the bluegills and yellowbellies we caught during the day. I saw another one off of route 50 last weekend when I was driving to southern Ohio. Where is the dam you guys fish at? I have been to the Greenup County dam in southern Ohio but got over run by the locals once the sun came up. Fishing right on top of me. We go to where I work in Enon Ohio allot and catch bass. Private pond up there. Tonight we are heading to our favorite river spot just below the DP&L spillway in Franklin.

I use to fish out at Chapps paylake in Florence but once I found this paylake called Cedar Paylake I never went back to Chapps. It's been a couple of years since I've gone but the average cats you'd catch would be in the range of 15lbs. to 90lbs. If I remember right Cedar Paylake is up near Milford, so for me it's like a 45 minute drive from Erlanger KY. But well worth it.
I caught a 57lb Bluecat on a creekchub, and the avg. for me and my friend would be around the 30lb. cats we would catch. The best bait for that place is bluegills, goldfish, nightcrawlers and creekchubs.:bigthumb
