On my '93 LX when I shift into 5th while putting along below 50 mph I have no issues. However when getting on the highway or the RPM's are above 3k I sometime get a "Cur-Chunk" noise. (Occasionally a slight grinding sound.) The car goes in all other gears without issue and can be downshifted without issue.

With it not happening all the time I have no idea. The T5 is stock but does have a Steeda shifter on it. Also the clutch and cable only have approx. 1000 miles on them.

Any ideas what could be causing this issue?

Yep, blockers in 5th are damaged sounds like. All it takes is somebody speed shifting into 5th one time and they are usually wasted. Also putting it into gear, but it's not quite there and letting the clutch out and you hear it grind, that does damage as well. that's just my opinion without listening to it or driving it.
