View Full Version : Money grabbing Milford cops busted

I've heard about it, now I've seen it for myself. While traveling the 28 Bypass, I saw a Milford cop on an overpass, actually hiding behind a tree with binoculars looking for people not wearing seat belts (luckily, I was wearing mine) Further, around the bend so you couldn't see them, were 2 chase cars waiting.. I really hate cops! It has nothing to do with safety (I've seen Milford cops driving without their seatbelts), it's all about the money.

Every once in awhile there is one that will park on the shoulder on 275. He parks on the shoulder on the westbound side at the bottom of the hill just West of 28. He stands there with binoculars looking back up the hill.

Wasn't Milford Cops, not their area. Likely Miami Township, which IIRC a member from here serves for them.
I guess Speed Limit signs have nothing to do with safety either, but they are the law just like seat belts.

Yea speed limit signs make a huge difference.West bound Muhlhauser from 747 to RT4 posted 35.East bound Muhlhauser from RT4 to 747,posted 45. I have no idea why. I do know that cops sit in Bobcat's parking lot and laser people coming from RT4.Sneaky basterds.

Yea, could have been Miami Township. They're all just roadside tax collectors and pimps for the insurance companies.
I haven't figured out why I can ride a motorcycle without a helmet, but not drive a car without a seat belt. Aren't both a personal choice? No question, you should wear a helmet and a seat belt, but we don't need the heavy hand of the police forcing us to. Sorry, I'm just a Libertarian.
In Ohio, police can not base a stop on a seatbelt violation. There must be another violation.

I thought they changed that law a while back to generate more money from a BS law.
I don't get it, they threw out the helmet law and put a seatbelt law in effect. I still think it should be an adults decision. I am 100% in agreement with the law as it pertains to minors.

Yup. All they have to do is pull you over to check for license/insurance. "Oh, and here's a ticket for not using your seat belt".

Sadly it seems as though the mentality of "serve and protect" has evolved into "serve and protect when necessary, and acquire revenue for the county to justify my job when not serving and protecting".

Again as Rich said, not wearing a seat belt is not probable cause to pull anyone over. There are a few cops that are in here including myself.

Well it's good they passed the whole "it looks like you're speeding" law so that can be probable cause. Oh and while we're at it, you weren't wearing your belt either.

I've heard a lot of PSAs saying "Cops are watching for seat belt use - day and night" "Click It or Ticket". Probable cause has pretty much gone to the wayside. All the cops see now are dollar signs.

You got that right. Safety? Come on. I need a safety belt to drive a car while enclosed in a steel frame, yet . . . I can go by a motorcycle capable of running ungodly speeds right off the show room floor and as long as I have a legit license I can ride around with no helmet. No hyprocrisy in the law there. None at all.
If wearig a helmet is a choice, so then should be a seat belt UNLESS as you say it's all about the money and we know that it is ALL ABOUT THE MONEY.
Sorry 2 wheeled fans, not picking on you only making a point that there is a double standard clearly here that benefits local municipalities.

At least that is a choice we can make for ourselves. Not that I feel seatbelts are the end all solution for prevention of injury from an accident. If it was that important we would all be wearing racing seatbelts.

It sounds like your taking this little talk kind of personal. You have a little sand in your vagina?
If there is no helmet law (after your first year of being endorsed) there should be no seat belt law. If you or anyone can explain to me why you need a belt in a car when your in something that has to meet certain safety standards but you can be on a bike without a helmet please do. I dont want to be told what I have to do in any case when it comes to belts and helmets.

Damn what a touchy subject. I am also one that wonders why you dont need a helmet but do need a seat belt. I am also one that would rather make my own decision on if I want to wear a seat belt of if I dont. I dont need some money grubbing politician to make my decisions for me. I can speak just fine for my self! They have to much say so in anything we do nowadays. Next thing you know, we'll be limited to the times we can wipe our own asses to save trees!

So tell us...how should cops catch these drug dealers, murders, and child molesters? Is it as simple as driving down the street and finding one? Unfortunately, it's not like Grand Theft Auto, where a giant arrow is over top of the "bad guy", pointing him out. Drug dealers don't walk around with a sign that reads "I have crack in my pocket".
Traffic stops are a vital part of catching bad guys.

Oh,and they need to take that fed grant money and instead of payin Leroy the badass to sit on the side of the road and collect overtime, they need to re-hire all the cops they just layed off.So that when I call about my neigbor being beligerant and throwing shit, they can get there in a timely manner.

I agree traffic stops are a way to see whats going on in the car but don't agree when cops just make shit up to pull you over which happens all the time especially around bar closing time. People should be stopped if their all over the road. There are a ton a dis-honest cops out there which is F***** up!!! Ive been pulled over before and the cop says you went left of center and I wasn't anywhere near that line. It's all fine and good if I break the law but don't make shit up just to pull me over!! And I really love the cops that fly up on your ass to try an make you nervous so you will do something. Well heres what I think of those cops and the dis-honest ones :flipoff:!!!!!!!!

Yeah one time i got pulled over for going too slow on 32. I thought it was speed LIMIT not minimum? I'll give that cop credit, he was pretty cool and we talked cars for a good half hour (i was driving the coupe) but still he was looking for a drunk or something and used whatever excuse he could pull out of his hat to pull me over. When i asked him isn't it speed limit not speed minimum, he told me i looked suspicious.

Actually I never really feel that I need the police, the only reason I ever call them is to keep myself out of trouble with them. I have known some very good police officers including one of my best friends father and my neighbor growing up. Both of them were great people and truely intended to help. As a majority I think most are this way, on the flip side there are the kids who got picked on in school and got a job working for union township. Labeling anyone as a good or bad person based strictly on their job is a bad idea.

Well it boils down to the mentality that most of them have....that they are excluded from following the very laws they enforce. Code of blue and don't try to tell me it don't exist. I have witnessed it for myself. Hell I know one fellow that went to be a special (volunteer/part time) deputy just so he can carry that small shield in his wallet so when he opens it up (making sure the fellow officer sees it) he'll get off.

IMHO speeding is a game of chess, you don't always win. You can choose not to play as well by obeying the limit. Just when you do get busted, quit crying about it and pay the ticket. You knew the risks, pay to play.
Airplane and OSP Instant on = you don't have a chance.
Radar and Laser you have a chance IF you keep your eyes open and pay attention.

That rabbit......what if the rabbit is a OSP car you've been following for 80+ miles at 80+ mph???? Like Toledo to Lima. Until the OSP (Ohio State Patrol) put on his left turn signal I wasn't lifting, but about 1/4 to 1/2 mile back. I assumed he was getting over for a broken down car/truck but when he hit the brakes to hit the turn around and I saw the reflection off the side emblem, OH SHIT moment!!!!
Valentine and Escort are both based out of Cincy, nothing more than a testing location IMHO!

The issue in this thread is the STUPID double standard law when you boil it down. Now add to that some stupid law maker (not law enforcement) deciding they want to further enforce their new found law, and some front line guy (cop) gets stuck doing the dirty work. How you enforce that law has a lot to do with how you are viewed. Example - NIOSH writes the safety guidelines for industries across our country. OSHA enforces those laws. you never hear employers complaining about NIOSH, you hear them complaining about OSHA. OSHA inspectors however have the power to look at a situation and determine if a fine should be imposed or if the situation warrants warning or verbal direction. It's up to the OSHA guy, does he look at things through the eyes of the "real world", or does he turn into a legalist that goes strictly by the book?
You all know that there are cops who are cool and cops who have holes in the tops of their heads. I have been written tickets by cops who I thought were cool regardless, and I have been written tickets by power hungry dickheads. It's the choice of the law enforcement officer as to how they approach the issue. have a nice fourth.
To the cool cops, thanks, even when you have cited me. to the dickheads, find another job.

Yeah they are dickheads , but i believe if you treat them with respect , you will get the same treatment back. We need to discuss our stupid laws with the people who make them , not the guy trying to enforce them. Most laws are created to generate revenue so the politican can keep his 3 assistants and not the police officers pocket. Just my opinion.

Only once has a cop or cops been rude to me, it was during a felony stop in Kenwood. Once I found out why (45 minutes later in the back of squad car!) I understood and the police chief apologized but he was doing his job.
A Civic with blue neon lisc. plate ring was involved in and attempted arm robbery involving a handgun in Deer Park.

I did get a ticket once sitting in front of a sign that said reduced speed 45 ahead in Cincinnati. They gave me a ticket for 52 in a 35. All I have to say is...FTP. Fucking cocksuckers are tax collectors. Traffic enforcement should be a civil enterprise, not a criminal one. Those police officers who are "tactically" catching speeders should be in school learning how to do real police work. I can't even begin to tell you the amount of drugs that flow through Clermont county. The police do NOTHING to proactively stop this, but of course they will proactively search for someone doing 5 over, because it's easy and not alot of work. What's worse is the same damn police who make drug arrests do drugs them selves. Fucking, Tim Budai of Goshen Police is dating someone who's mom is a known pill dealer in Goshen and he does shit about it.
Christ, there is a CCSO deputy who fucking street races with us...it's just such a farse.
I don't know, I hate the police. I respect real heroes, the dudes who pull people out of burning houses and rescue people off bridges. Not someone who enforces compliance with 20K volts.

So theres a law...you know about this law...and your mad they enforce it?...ok. Worthless rant.
Break the law and pay for it...I really dont get why your so upset. Just put the stupid seat belt on or else pay the fine. It's pretty simple.
I hate when people sit on here and talk bout "hating police" usually when you hate the police it's because you break the law.
VERY WELL SAID !!! :bigthumb
We had a similar thread on here not long ago ( People BITCHING about the police ) ... Don't break the law and there is nothing to worry about !!!

correct but some laws are horse shit and you know it.......
here is a few examples.....taken from http://www.dumblaws.com/laws/united-states/ohio
In Ohio, if you ignore an orator on Decoration day to such an extent as to publicly play croquet or pitch horseshoes within one mile of the speaker’s stand, you can be fined $25.Women are prohibited from wearing patent leather shoes in public. It is illegal to fish for whales on Sunday. It is illegal to get a fish drunk. The Ohio driver’s education manual states that you must honk the horn whenever you pass another car.Participating or conducting a duel is prohibited.Breast feeding is not allowed in public. It is illegal for more than five women to live in a house. It is illegal to mistreat anything of great importance.Full text of the law. No one may be arrested on Sunday or on the Fourth of July.
now I don't know about you but if my fish and I want to drink a cold one together that's my fish and mines biznitch........but I suppose now I posted this all the cops on here will tell all the other uniformed city SERVANTS to bust my door down arrest me and make me pay a fine......
personally I think setbelts like helmets are apersonal choice for anybody old enough to fight and die for their country!!!! andanybody who waves that but the government wants to keep us safe bullshit......some food for thought.......why not equip our troops with the best of the best to keep them safe......cuz it cost to much......it is and always will be about money.....

All I have to say is...FTP. Fucking cocksuckers are tax collectors. Traffic enforcement should be a civil enterprise, not a criminal one. That's the most intelligent post I have read on this thread!
I know a guy who dates this girl, who is friends with their friends, and they have other friends that do drugs! Stupid ass cops won't do shit!

All,
I received the latest copy of Mopar Collector's Guide today and read some very disturbing news for Ohio auto enthusiasts. Back in December a bill, HB 191 (aka the "Monica Durban Law"), passed the House by a landslide and will soon be passed by the Senate if our voices are not heard. I'm not talking about an annoying emissions law or crazy rule about historical tags. The bill will instruct police officers to SEIZE your vehicle and take away your license for a year if they see rapid acceleration, fast driving, burning tires, or street racing. They won't impound it. They will TAKE it and sell it at a state auction! Not only that, but it loosely defines the term "street racing" to include just about anything. Revving your engine at a stop light can be considered taunting or promoting a street race. Again, it is up to the police officer's discretion. If you have a car that could be seen as "souped up", you'll be targeted. If you are just watching someone displaying any form of "street racing", you are equally guilty because you are promoting illegal activity!
A couple years ago a young lady was put in a 6-month coma when a drunk driver was racing a friend on an on-ramp to I-70. The drunk driver was killed. Instead of focusing on the fact that the kid was drunk, they are deciding to "increase the penalties" to "help deter people from entering in a race" and essentially declaring war on any and all performance vehicles in our state!
Don't take my word for it. Read the bill yourself:
http://www.legislature.state.oh.us/analysis.cfm?ID=128_HB_191&hf=analyses128/h0191-i-128.htm
We've all seen or heard of bills that threaten our hobby by causing an inconvenience or extra expense, but this one hits very close to home. You don't have to be doing anything wrong or dangerous for a policeman to take your beloved car and charge you with a felony!
By the way, how many of you even heard of this bill??? And it's half way to becoming a law! I urge you to contact your state senator. Below is a link to the state senate where you can find the senator from your area. Each senator has contact information listed and a link to which you can send email.

Here is a link with quick tips for writing an effective letter to legislators.

Please pass this along to all your car buddies to prevent the state from giving law enforcement an unprecidented amount of power over us and our hobby.
In the name of horsepower!

You guys obviously can't read. If you even rev your motor or accelerate rapidly you can be charged. The law also states that you are not allowed to run NOS on the street. Now you may not care but next will be other power adders just like the food followed the cigarettes.

You can be charged with anything or sued for anything, they still have to prove the case.

If you don't agree with a law don't sit here and bitch about it. Go out and make a difference and get a bill started to repeal the seat belt law or like the law they are trying to pass above, write you elected officals and have them crush that bill. Signing petitions and bitching on message boards get you nothing but writing actually letters sent by snail mail is taken a little more seriously since they see that you will take the time to do what you say since you took the time to write, and mail a letter.

You could have simply called the DA's office and probably gotten it taken care of before ever going to court.
