View Full Version : Pro chamber have baffles?

I have a question..Do pro chamber pipes have a baffle in them??
I traded an O/R x-pipe for a pro chamber. It is the sound I am looking for. It was on a few days and now it is rattling/vibrating. I have had it in air several times checking bolts, and everything is tight. I think the sound is coming from inside the chamber. It sounds like there is 50 cents worth of change vibrating inside! GRRRR.
I had a thought of having a shop cut it open and check it out and weld it back up?? I don't want to scrap it since I traded a SS x-pipe for it. Are there baffles inside them, that may have come loose and are rattling? Think it is fixable?
Any suggestions?
thanks

No baffles...the inside can be best described as sort of like a very large and very opened up X. I've always felt it was a total gimmick for that reason, since it is essentially just a big X pipe with a box wrapped around it. I used to have a cross section pic of one but can't find it.

Thanks, post the pic if you can find it. I thought the same thing but it sounds like there is something inside it vibrating. I may take it completely off and see if there is something inside that can be dumped out. I did pull the cat back loose and revved the car to see if anything would come out the back. I also put a long magnet inside.
thanks for reply

No baffles . Pretty much a box . 2 pipes dump into a box and 2 pipes out the box . Not the same as a good x pipe .

One time i found a random bolt inside a muffler. Funny thing is the catback was new when it went on so where did the muffler come from?

I did the trade with Silverstang on here. I'm going to take it off right now and see if there is something inside of it! I was just wondering if there is a baffle inside that may have come loose and is causing the noise. Will keep u all posted.

Man I feel horrible for that let me know if you need any help. It never did that on my car at all or I would not have traded.

I took it completely off the car today and nothing inside. It looks like an X with a box around it. It is still rattling. I'm not sure where it is coming from. I think I'm gonna drop it at an exhaust shop and have them troubleshoot it! I'm at a loss. The only thing I haven't done is remove the Borla catback. If there was something inside the pro chamber..maybe it is inside the catback.
It sounds like a bracket rattling as the revs come down.

I took it to a shop yesterday, they said that the flange was not seating all the way against the flange coming from the manifold. They said there is exhaust blowing through the gap between the 2 flanges. They ground on the flanges/studs to make a tighter seat. It sounds better but it is still leaking/rattling. It has no gasket in it right now. I did not have a gasket in it with the O/R x-pipe installed=no leak. Anyone suggest a good metal gasket for this application. Do you think it will seal it up and stop the damn rattle?

Go to a Ford dealer and get the gasket. I think they are $10 or less.

Do this! I messed with the junk gaskets MAC gives these mid-pipes and they blow out all the time. Factory Ford gasket is the only way to go.
Any progress?

OK, so I picked up the Ford metal gasket today. I pulled the pipe off and the center donut part fell out. It had seperated from the flange...so it was fluttering between the pipes. I put the new one in and it seems to have taken care of the vibration!! I think I'm gonna run it Thur. at KilKare.
