converter question?

I am Supposed to have a 4000-4200 stall in my car. I've not had a chance to try it out. Too hot. Can someone explain to me how to come up in the converter like while staging, or doing a burn out?
I've got a manual valve body C-4. I hate to ask a Dumb question that I think I know the answer but I'd rather be sure and not do any damage.
