I don't know if this is factory or not and if it is, I don't know what the purpose is, but I have a combination of soft power steering lines coming out of the rack that lead into hard lines that loop around and mount up to the top of the core support. What is the purpose of this? My car does not have a power steering cooler of any kind on it and never has since I owned it. Any thoughts??
They're protruding throught the lower driver side of the core support and loop up at the top of the core support where they're mounted via a bracket:

My hand is on the two lines that are in question:

When I think of a "cooler" I think of a mini oil cooler or trans cooler, etc. This doesn't have anything like that anywhere along the line that loops around.

Its the cooler. It doesnt need to have a big finned cooler to do its job. If it was a road race car it would be a different story

As I told you and showed you when you were at the shop, (and as 347sc is saying) that is the factory powersteering cooler... remember how I moved it down to the bottom of the core support when we mocked up the intercooler? you can move it or remove it and still keep your powersteering, you will be fine.

Get rid of it!
You don't need it and it will save you, what, 15ozs!

I just couldn't get it through to myself that there was actually no cooler for the PS
I just have a hard time accepting that that hard line actually does anything at all. Especially now that there's going to be a big IC in front of it.
I'm gonna remove it and see how it does. Now I just gotta figure out how!
That's right Jeff, more weight off the front end!!!

It's definitely the cooler. I read several places where people said they took it off with no adverse effects. I have to take mine off too.

How do you plan on doing it? Those are high pressure lines aren't they?
I also wanted to ask you about how you planned on centering your motor in you k member. I need to do the same thing.

It's low pressure. Just take the line that drops from the reservoir down to the cooler, and move it to where the other line from the cooler attaches to the rack. It's a pretty easy thing.
I'm just going to loosen the motor mount bolts, and jack the motor up under the front sump of the oil pan. Once it's in the air a 1/4" or so, it should be pretty easy to rock from one side to the other.
