Well many people have asked for it and we have gotten it all together now.

September 25, 2010

Cruis'n For The Troops (Great American Cruise)

Start: Crestview, Crestview Town Center.
Finish: WPAFB National Air Museum

Why: To gather as many High performance vehicles together and cruise to a great location and to help with donations of items to be sent to the troops over seas in Iraq and Afgahnistan. All in the name of HORSEPOWER and OUR TROOPS OVER SEAS!!!

We will meet up at Crestview Town Center in the lot between Boarders and Max-n-Erma's at 8:00 am and leave there at 9:00am.

We will be heading north onto Dixie Hwy onto I-275 East. This way we have no lights to contend with. We will then head to I-471 north and then to I-75, I-675 and then to WPAFB.

The people from Yellow Ribbon Support Center (started with Matt Maupin) will be on hand to send us off and to take the donations for the troops to send over seas.

I will be posting a list of supplies soon that Yellow Ribbon Support Center has given me.

I'd like to Thank Crestview Town Center for allowing us to host this at their location and for their support!

This may be an enjoyable event and a worthy cause for assistance. For those who don't live in KY or know the geography of NKY here is a link. http://www.shopcrestviewhillstowncenter.com/crestview-hills-town-center/directions.aspx

Glad to see this cruise was brought back. Had a good time at the one in 06 when we met up at MD when they were in Evendale.

Some of the recent events going on at the Museum and a few attractions:

DSP Satelite now on display

A structural test vehicle from the Defense Support Program (DSP), which helped to provide the Air Force with early warning of ballistic missile launches or above ground nuclear detonations, was recently donated to the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force by Northrop Grumman.

This 35-foot-long structural test vehicle, which is now on display in the museum's Missile & Space Gallery, includes the infrared sensor Trailblazer component without the associated electronics. Structural test vehicles are full-sized units used to verify that all the components fit together correctly.

Aircraft Being Restored

B-17F Memphis Belle - The original Memphis Belle was on static display in Memphis, Tenn., until October 2005. At that time, it was transported to the museum where it is now undergoing restoration. The B-17 with "Memphis Belle" markings seen at many air shows is not the original aircraft.

B-17D The Swoose - This aircraft is the oldest surviving B-17 Flying Fortress and the only D model in existence. Originally named Ole Betsy, this B-17D participated in several bombing missions in the desperate weeks after Pearl Harbor. Later named The Swoose, it also served as a transport for the commander of Allied air forces in the Southwest Pacific, Lt. Gen. George Brett.

Also a C-7, C-123K, GAU-8/A, HU-16B, Mig-21, Minuteman I missle, O-46A, RQ-1 Predator, XC-99
