Took a good look under my car and it seems like a lot of rust. I have some pictures here. How hard is this to fix and how dangerous is it. Who could do it and is it worth it.

I've scrapped cleaner cars than that. Man thats alot. Especially right there at the torque box.

my advice take your motor and swap it onto another car.. Rust is like cancer it keeps coming back.. I will not own another mustang if it has any rust at all..

I pretty much agree. What I would like to do is get a cleaner car and use this for a parts car. Could I have other opinions please.

Put some frame ties on it have someone weld your torque boxes, sand blast it and under coat it and keep your car it will be more than fine

Probably a few hundred bux. I know a guys who can do it. It just depends if you like your car or not

I wish I could find a stripped out vert for a few hundred and change things over. I have put a decent amount of money in it and you hate to lose that much. Where is the person located. I would like him to take a look at it.

Here I have a serious problem and you guys are joking around. :)Is it worth fixing or do you have a vert you want to sell.

Both frame rails are shot, holes in both and the rust has comprimised the strenght of the rest of the rail. The floor pan is also a part of the structual integrety of the unibody and it shows signs of being weak in the pics. Also from the pics you can see the brake lines are rusted and will need replacing.

You can patch it together and let the rust eat away at the supporting parts or change it over to another chassis which should be alittle more cost effective and give you more peace of mind

Thank you- I was kidding about the teasing around also. Anyone want to buy a rusted vert.

I agree with the others, looks bad in the pics, (plus I would also wonder about the rest of the car you cant see) so I would recomend changing it over. But if you just have to have your current car , then I am sure it can be fixed (without seeing it in person, I think that much rust work could end up cost $$$$ before its all done).

You could always backhalf it and run a 12" wide wheel on the back. Would not be cheap but if the rest of the body is good it couuld be cool

I would rather find another chasis. The hard part is finding a somewhat reasonably priced ( 600 to 800 bucks) chasis to switch over to. I have just about everything I need.2 2.3 motors. I have both an automatic and 5 speed. I have a hatchback also that I would like to get rid of and just have the convertible. I have a ton of trading material.

The thing is we live in ohio and the cars are over 20yrs old. Most cars are going to have these issues people are going to have to start fixing them like they have been old chevelles and other classic cars since the early 80's. There are company's that sell floors and frame rails now like CJ pony so there is no need in continuing to scrap good cars

That is just not cost effective for him. By the time you replace all the parts and have it finished he could have a very nice 5.0 car and be ahead of the game. If it was a Cobra or even a nice GT it might sway the other way.

I didnt think anyone produced frame rails for a fox yet

I think your right as far as people starting to reproduce needed parts as far as strut towers, floor pans, and even rear frame rails. But as many fox's that are out there the price for repair far exceeds what it would cost for a good clean roller. Ive found really clean rollers for right around $1000 and some with even some aftermarket parts installed already. I think there will come a time that we will have to start fixing them if we want one though but just not yet. I guess it comes down to how bad his really is and what kind of shape is the rest of the body in.

I put an add up for a roller. I would really like to find one. I thought since a lot of people had been reading the post someone may have one. Wish I had kept the 65 but that was before the internet and I really didn't know where to go with it. The thing I bought the car I didn't know much about them. As I learn you realize problems.

so you made the decision to find one in better shape... will try to keep an eye out for a vert roller for you!

I think that would be the best for me since I would have to get most of the work done on it. I don't have the ability to fix all the rust but I can change everything over. Sounds like a good fall job. Now I need the roller.

yea, sounds like a better route for you because you can save some $$$ if you can do the work yourself swapping over.

There's still alot of nice foxbodys out there..You just gotta look around. They're starting to be worth more and more...hopefully one day we'll all get rich off of them, lol.

That may be a while.
